Great place to shop. High quality stuff, you pay more but it last forever. The MEC brand stuff is great.
Best outdoors shop in area, maybe in all of Vancouver. Good selection of gear, friendly staff, reasonable prices and good return policies.
My wife and I purchased a bunch of gear for a trekking trip in South America and the staff helped a lot. From help picking and fitting hiking boots to choosing a waterproof shell to finding a good day pack.
It's a fun place just to look around as well. It inspires you to get outdoors and enjoy the surrounding nature!
Absolutely great staff, everyone knows a lot and is so cheerful! I also found here everything I need for my 5 month winter trip north. You need to pay CA$5 to even buy something but the prices are well worth it!!!
Aside from the $5 membership fee and high prices (most at MRSP). The store is very well rounded and has most equipment in stock, whether it's for cycling, or for surfing. The store carries many quality named brands, but still lacks others. Arguably, the best part about this store is the warranty/customer satisfaction guarantee (yours with one time member purchase), anything goes wrong with your backpack 5 years from today? They got you cover! In addition to this, the staffs here are very knowledgeable and approachable.
Simply the best outdoor store. A true Canadian icon. Knowledgeable staff and fair prices for great quality gear. Even better when you're lucky enough to find a clearance deal.
Love this store so much! Super helpful staff and great equipment at decent prices.
Took my bike here on labour day thinking it would be the only shop open. Do not take your bike here, staff have little to no knowledge of simple repairs, waited over an hour just to have a tube changed, only to have them mount the tire on backwards..safe to say I wouldn't take my bike back here. Very disappointing
I had a great experience getting my Tri-Bike fitted. William helped me and was awesome at explaining why we do fittings and how important it is. He also gave me options for my bike and there was no pressure to up-sell me. He was honest and extremely helpful, I would definitely recommend MEC for bike fittings
Really high prices. we know from the get go that they are high, but the staff are completely useless. And for what you are paying, I would expect for the staff to at least know about the product they have in stock, and how to use their inventory software.
Anyway. After being told 4 times that they did not carry what we were looking for. Even though online said they had it. We found what we wanted. Getting the proper fit was another issue all together.
What should have been 5 minutes.
Took 1.5 hours.
Needed some work on my headset. The shop wasn't able to solve the problem, but put about 20 minutes into the bike and charged me nothing! They were super friendly and helpful. Great place to shop.
Great gear, some send really over priced! Staff really knowledgeable which is very helpful. Nice that they offer workshops on outdoor navigation, bike repairs etc- that is a great way to engage with the community! But a friend of mine said she cannot get size 14 there, that seems weightist and not helpful, lots of people do activities over the size of 10!!
In my experience MEC is very inconsistent. I've had a 1 star and a 5 star experience so I split the difference.
5 stars because someone bent over backwards to find me the book I was looking for. He searched every corner of the store to figure out where it was and was extremely knowledgeable and helpful.
1 star because I got sent on a wild goose chase around the store. No one could tell me where to go to update the firmware on my Mammut beacon so I got sent to three different desks and they still couldn't help me. I ended up going to Valhalla Pure next door where they were extremely helpful.
Great store with wonderful customer service!
I go to MEC regularly to purchase backpacking food and hiking gear, as well as for recommendations from the staff. In addition, I had a parking issue with the EasyPark and worked with one of the managers, Cory, to find a solution. Wonderful store!
OMG, climbing gear heaven. Awesome range of ropes and shoes. I had to stop looking because I would have maxed out my credit card. Just thinking about the range makes me want to go back and I am home in Australia now! Thanks Henry.
PS Henry goes there for the Ski stuff and there was tons of that too.
MEC is great. Besides the fact that I never remember to bring my membership card with me.
Their clearance sales are always a great deal, they carry everything from socks to kayaks. I have purchase plenty here over the past 2 years. The tent I have is an entry level 2 person tent that has treated me very well on numerous overnight hikes up and down around the whistler area.
I purchased a sleeping bag as well and was thrilled with the selection they offer - being mildly allergic to down, they offer synthetic materials that more than met my needs for warmth.
Shoes, shirts, coats - all are top of the line. I buy these products because I know they will last.
The advice I receive from the associates in the store is always honest and very helpful; most of the employees have extensive outdoors experience and know their products well. On my most recent trip, I was talked OUT of buying a product because it did not meet the reps personal standards of satisfaction.
Very impressed with the location - will definitely continue to shop here.
