Cats with FIV are POSITIVEly adoptable and we just happen to have one with us at GTHS right now. Meet JO JO!!
Hi! I'm JO JO! I am a handsome, 2 year old dude on the hunt for a loving home! I'm so thankful to have ended up at GTHS and can't wait to start this exciting new chapter of my life. Something important to know about me is that I'm an FIV+ kitty! Being FIV+ I don't need too much extra care, just a vet visit twice a year to make sure I am in my best shape. A little secret that a lot of people don't know (don't tell the other kitties) is that FIV+ cats actually give the most love! It's true!! I am super super sweet and friendly, I just want to be everybody's friend, all I need are some humans of my very own to love. Come visit me in person at the shelter any day between 12pm-4pm! Collingwood Home Hardware Building Centre's Goes to the Dogs fundraising event is THIS Saturday August 11th!

We never know what's going to come through our door. Recently we had 3 tiny kittens arrive, that were found in a pile of wood chips. Their mother passed away so they were brought to us so we could care for them as they were still too young to be on their own and need to be bottle fed.
This kitten was found with a cuterebra burrowed in her eye. She will be making a trip to the vet and then once all is settled and the parasite is extracted, she will be off to a foster home with her siblings where they will be bottle fed and given love until they are old enough to go up for adoption.

After posting about our boy BUDDY last week, we still haven't had any inquiries, so we've decided to make BUDDY our PET OF THE WEEK!
How can anyone say no to this kind and handsome face (albeit, he's got a bit of a mulchy mouth this morning after playing lots of fetch in our dog yard!)
6 year old BUDDY truly is the sweetest guy! He is very polite with other dogs and adores new people once he's had a chance to say hello at his own speed (our big boy can be a bit shy at first).
BUDDY is going to make an absolutely amazing lifelong companion for someone who is willing to help him with his confidence and show him the world.

Here's a SaturYAY Happy Tail from GTHS alumni: BEAU & CASEY!
About a month ago, beautiful mom CASEY and her 7 adorable puppies made the long trip from Northern Manitoba to GTHS to find loving homes. As it turns out, CASEY and one of her pups, BEAU, were adopted by relatives, so these two get to see each other all the time! How wonderful is that?! The following is a truly great update that we are excited to share with you:
"Hi GTHS! Hope you’re doing well. Both Casey and Beau are doing great! They see each other fairly often and love playtime. Beau is getting bigger faster than I could’ve imagined and has already learnt how to sit, lay down and go to bed. He sleeps through the night and is very good about using his pee pads or letting us know he has to go out. Casey officially had her first bath and loved it. She has a little swimming pool in the backyard and she likes to play in that and roll and in the dirt. Casey definitely knows Beau is one of hers, whenever she sees him she tries to clean him and pick him up! What a good mom! Both dogs are doing great and we can’t thank you enough for giving us the opportunity to adopt both Casey and Beau! We couldn’t be happier!!"

This young lady is going to go on to do great things!
Every child is excited for their birthday because who doesn't love presents? Well this young superstar asked that instead of giving her presents, everyone gave donations to the GTHS.

Do you need a gentle giant in your life?!
If yes, we have definitely got the guy for you!! Meet our boy, BUDDY. BUDDY is just as sweet as he is big! This lovely, long-legged pup absolutely adores his human friends here at the GTHS. This 6 year old guy enjoys strolling the trails and walks like a dream on his leash. Such a good boy!! BUDDY can be a little shy initialing with new friends (both dog and human) but certainly doesn't take long to warm right up to you and start asking for affection. BUDDY will do wonderfully in a calm home with some loving humans who are willing to help this sweet, big guy with his confidence.

Our little babies are daydreaming about finding their purrrfect home!!

We got a face lift!
Thank you to Union Gas and the Helping Hands In Action program for coming and giving us a beautiful makeover. The hard work you put in is appreciated and the garden looks beautiful.

Our August feature volunteer is Dave!
Dave is a dedicated Monday volunteer, who cleans the main cat room on Monday mornings (with great fellow volunteers he says!), and later in the day he works on PetPoint; handling data entry of intakes, medical status and updates, and final closure of files after adoptions

Having recently gone through the adoption process with them it's obvious how much they care for the animals there and want to make sure they go to somewhere that is in the best interest of the animal.

We adopted a wonderful Husky X earlier this weekhe was "Ryder" for those who saw him on the board/website. The staff and volunteers at the shelter are absolutely wonderful, and we enjoyed spending our "wait time" in the cat room. I popped in yesterday to show some pictures of how (now) Drake is fitting into his new home, and many staff members came out of the woodwork to see him. Just an overall profound sense of sincere caring. Thank-you all for our family member!

Volunteering at the GTHS has given me such a deep understanding and appreciation of the love and care so many people give willingly to animals in need. I have witnessed absolute miracles and have also experienced such sadness. Knowing a cat, dog or kitten has found a home is the greatest reward of all for everyone. The GTHS unites people with a common mission. It is a privilege to be a volunteer and to know now how much support comes from the public and private sectors in order to maintain such an optimum environment for our four legged friends.

GTHS is the best place I have dealt with while looking for a new addition to our family over the last month. We looked at many rescues and shelters and GTHS by far exceeded expectations in all aspects. Staff was very friendly, knowledgable and Karen was so patient while we made our decision even though they were so busy while we were there. Lindsey answered all our questions during our multiple phone calls after we adopting our purrfect boy Gaston (now Mushu). The shelter is so clean, the main cat room so great for the cats to roam. You can tell they are all very loved and cared for. They gave us many tips as a first time pet owner, and Mushu settled in perfectly within a day. Such a great experience we are thinking of heading back to find him a fur sibling! Thank you so much for making this a great experience for my children and myself GTHS �

Had a wonderful experience last night adopting our new kitty. The facility is beautiful and the staff/volunteers are wonderful. I had my two young and very excited daughters with me and everyone was so patient with us. We love our kitty and she has settled right into our home. She is so sweet and gentle and was clearly very well taken care of. Thanks for an incredibly positive experience for our family.

The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. The cat room is fantastic; cats are free to roam, play, socialize. They are not in separate cages unless they're under vet watch or need to be alone. We adopted a lovely kitty today and we've been given a little "starter" package which was a nice touch. I really really like the no-kill policy and how they educate future owners about the horrific declawing procedure. Thanks again for the positive experience!

I am so impressed by GTHS.. I have many strays I rescued around my home and with your help they have now been given a second chance. Thank you soooo much for all your help. One of the adoption staff members were rude to us and to other staff members in front of us, while trying to adopt a kitten.
The staff member refused to let us adopt the kitten that we picked out, we told her about the situation and she refused. I am a young mother who was willing to pay an adoption fee for my son to have a kitten. She told us we were neglectful and didn't deserve to have a kitten. I have a rescue husky who was untamed when I got him as a foster, he's a perfect dog now, not sure how someone can say we are neglectful without even knowing us? We adopted our boy on December 24th. The staff went over and beyond to accommodate us coming from out of town. Courtney was amazing in providing information about our boy. Everyone there was friendly and you could feel their passion and kind hearts for the animals. Thank you for being awesome.

I could not have been more impressed with the thoroughness that GTHS puts into every adoption. It is so nice to see that they ensure a good match and do such an amazing job looking after and getting their adopt-ees ready for their forever homes. My husband and I had an amazing experience adopting our new dog Autumn (Amy) yesterday. Despite being super busy, all the staff was very kind and helpful. I would highly recommend the GTHS if you are looking to adopt!
