This weekend! 17th annual JCCC NATSU MATSURI AND OBON SUMMER FESTIVAL – featuring Tanabata celebrations!
The JCCC would like to invite everyone to come out on Saturday July 14, 2018 for the 17th Annual Natsu Matsuri (3:30 – 7 pm) and Obon (7 – 9:30) Festival. Please join us for a lively festival atmosphere with children’s games, vendors, great food (including our famous Somen Bar and our Beer Garden) and spectacular performances.
Once again we will also be including Tanabata at this event. Visitors to the festival will be able to participate in activities such as a special Wishing Tree, and there will be more Tanabata activities for children, too.
We look forward to the 17th year of this exciting JCCC and Community tradition. We hope to see lots of new and familiar faces. Mark your calendars now! Everyone is welcome and admission is free!
第17回夏祭り＆盆踊り - 七夕を祝おう！
7月14日(土)午後3時半から午後9時半まで恒例の夏祭り＆盆踊りが開催されます。ゲームやそうめんバー、屋台の食べ物に加え、様々なパフォーマンスなど活気溢れるお祭りです。又、7月7日をちなんで、色とりどりの吹流しが風になびき、笹には個々の願いを書いた短冊を飾り、七夕の雰囲気を味わっていただきます。夕涼みにはビアガーデンで冷たいビールを一杯。たまりません。仏教会主催の毎年恒例盆踊りは午後7時からスタート！沢山のコミュニティグループが集まるユニークな行事となるよう現在企画中です。今年で17周年を迎えるこの夏祭りは、JCCC駐車場と館内で行われます。(雨天の場合は館内のみ。)　入場料は無料です。今からカレンダーに印をつけ、ご家族、お友達をお誘いあわせの上、是非ご来場下さい!

I have actually been to the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre before and the last time I was there the gallery was Not ready and they were still in the process of setting it all up.

They recently had a Grand Opening for Bryce Kanbara the artist, however, I missed it, however, his exhibition is till going on until Sunday, March 18, 2018 and so You have plenty of time to see it.

Thankfully I saw his artwork today and it was Very Nice!

I want to personally Thank Bryce Kanbara for putting on such a fine display of his artwork and Thank Sue for helping Me make my Youtube Video back on Sunday, February 11, 2018.

I am currently looking for any English - Japanese speaking talents who are looking for a job in Montreal. One of my client has a position of Customer care for Japanese client. 40 hours per week, 19h30 to 07h30 night shift mainly. The client is one of the fastest growing fashion companies and the main responsibility of this position is telecommunication and direct email support for their Japanese customers.

I have always enjoyed stopping by at the JCCC but to be honest my reasons have little to do with the Anime conventions. I usually go there to check out the little museum and learn more about the history behind many western Canadians of Japanese-descents, especially because certain aspects overlap with the history of the Chinese-Canadians in the west who were lured here for cheap labour.

In addition, I have always wanted to take my Japanese-speaking skills a bit further and I feel that the people at the JCCC are very nice and helpful with explaining certain Kanji characters (usually those that are exclusive to Shinjitai) whenever I need help since I currently only read Hiragana, Katakana, and Kyujitai but was never taught the simplified system.

I look forward to taking full-courses there after I finish my marketing program at George Brown College.

The JCCC is a wonderful place to sample a taste of one of the most ancient and modern cultures in our world. It is both welcoming and, in it's exhibit about the WWII incarceration, warning about the risks of misunderstanding between different world views. I have celebrated Japanese festivals there and look forward to returning again.

This was our first time attending the spring festival at the JCCC and myself and my family really enjoyed it. We've always been fascinated by the Japanese culture and hope to visit Japan one day. Thank you for opening your doors to everyone and making us feel so welcome. We drove in from Peterborough just to visit your centre and we will be back again!

I LOVE that there is a place in my city where I can absorb and celebrate my culture and pass it on to my own children and all of our friends. The JCCC has always represented our heritage and background from my grandfather's generation (Issei) onward to my own children (Yonsei). From the days of Caravan at the original Pavilion to the recent events of the new centre, the JCCC will always be a part of our lives.

On another note, I am looking for a Japanese - English translator who is interested in translating Japanese texts on martial arts into English for my own personal use, not for mass publication. As such, I cannot afford a high-priced professional. Might be good for a university Master's student or such. Thanks.

Enjoyed the event. Though was expecting a little bit more. The high expectation may due to personal experience of living in Japan for a few years.. Overall a great event to get a good introduction of Japanese culture.

I am a bit biased but as one of the more than 400 volunteers who actively supports the JCCC it is an absolutely amazing vibrant cultural Centre that embraces the vision of "Friendship through Culture" wholeheartedly. It is by volunteering along side our "super senior volunteers" - volunteers who are in their 80's, 90's and even 100's that you learn more about the the Japanese Canadian history and culture. And being able to work with our Ijusha friends builds the friendships that strengthens and grows our community. If you haven't participated in the JCCC ' S many festivals events you are missing out on something special.
