EXTRA LONG LASTING LITHIUM BATTERY PACK
The battery is one of the last parts of the build we need to confirm the specs for the jet propulsion system. We are working with seven different battery manufactures learning and weighing out the pros and cons of each design/cell type, life cycle, and related costs.
Fellow backers and supporters have shared a great deal of information/insight with us, and we take your wants, needs, and ideas very seriously as we want to deliver you something that you are not only proud of but love to ride!
We are not getting into the fine details just yet on the battery pack, as we continue to test our newest jet systems but we can tell you that we have ruled out the highly volatile and delicate Lipo cells. They are great for prototyping and testing, but I don't like to even them in my garage in fear of a flare-up. As you likely know, safety is our #1 concern and then having something super fun, fast and easy to ride follows.
The other area of the battery to think about is the battery life cycle. It seems most companies for esurf boards and efoils are using cells that fade between 300-500 charges and if a battery pack like Lift's costs $3500-$4000 (I think), that is not something you want to replace often.
Many of you want to start and run jet surfboard rentals, and efoil rentals both which our eboard and jet system provide as our all-in-one design, which is a big reason why we are designing for safety, ease of learning/riding, and extra durable to the handle wear and tear from renters. But, besides that, we are looking at using one of the most successful Li-ion systems which are tailored for high current power cells and have a 3-hour quick charge for rental shops or if you go out for another session later in the day.
Also, these this type of cell is stable and cost-effective at a quarter the cost of Lift's battery pack and the best part is these cells last 750-1000 charges before capacity starts fading. Do the math, quarter the price, twice the life cycle/rides/rental income :)
After months of work sourcing out battery options and manufacturers, we are super stoked to have one within out battery pricing range we expected. A big part of the cost is because we will be doing a bulk order which cuts the cost dramatically thanks to all you supporting the cause and expecting to buy a unit at cost soon.
The next big step for all of us is to get a prototype/sample battery from a manufacturer, test it out and confirm specs. And while it is super exciting and huge step forward for the VeFoil project, getting a one-off prototype battery is going to cost us about $1250 USD.

The VeFoil team and I brought on an expert ESC builder to help design, test and mass produce this ESC for us which we will make available and ship worldwide within a couple months.
Its a design that is built, tested and used for many months already. And asked if we could add some features to make it the next ESC everyone will want for their efoil, and more than powerful enough for jet surfboards running high current and full throttle.
It handles 100A continuous full throttle with no water cooling required, 170A continuous full throttle with water cooling, peak 300A, max 76v, built-in BEC, on/off switch, wires bolt on vs solder connections, coated with conformal coating for water/splash resistance, all the features of a VESC, and nearly no internal resistance at 99.4% because it was designed with all the highest quality parts available on the market for the USA and Europe. Really exciting stuff because the heart of any jet surfboard or efoil is the controller.
We can now to limit the motor RPM to eliminate prop cavitation and reduce battery consumption. We can also limit the max motor current to once again reduce extra amps/heat to increase our riding time. Most exciting of all is that the throttle and rpm will be the same for the entire session because of how we designed the power system. No more peppy/sensitive throttle during a fully charged battery, or sluggish response near the end of your session. Expect a consistent and smooth right from start to finish.

Improving Impeller
We are running a CFD (computational fluid dynamics) in OpenFOAM software that gives us thrust, torque, pressure fields, and velocities to check for cavitation, We look at the pressure at the blade, especially in the suction side with help from https://www.friendship-systems.com for our current impeller design.
At the moment 100 variations are running this simulation to find the absolute best impeller design for our motor torque, require thrust for starting, and cruising speed.
Also, this week we started another jet build design that we know will improve efficiency and thrust yet again. Simon and I will be spending tomorrow modifying, building, machining parts, and updating some part in CAD for this exciting jet upgrade - stay tuned!

Getting ready to test some new and improved #efoil and #efoilboard parts :)
The new two-piece jet nozzle can now be machined in aluminum for strength and durability.
Also, this is our new CNC'ed 4 Blade impeller courtesy of www.mdaprecision.com/ who when out of their way to help tune the design and machine it with their 4 axis mill. THANKS A TONE GUYS!

Quick Parts Update for VeFoil Progress
We are super stoked with the progress and design thus far. Everything seems to be falling into place.
Today/tomorrow our new aluminum waterproof compartment arrives for us to start modifying and getting it ready to install in our efoil board.
Our efoil board should be shipped this week which will be a huge improvement in efoiling vs the 9'6" board we are using how with a tapered in tail which does not work well.
Our improved impellers arrived for more thrust and speed and looking forward to testing them.
In that past week, we have disassembled and reassembled our jet drive a several times, each time we find a way to improve on design to make it easier and faster to assemble and/or service. Amazing how parts evolve over time, love it!
Also, we took our jet nozzle to a whole new level of quality and design. We turned it from a 3D printed only part into a two-part jet nozzle with water vanes that fit inside the nozzle. What makes this so much better is that both parts will be CNC'ed in aluminum. The jet nozzle and water vanes are the highest wear part on the build constantly getting blasted with sandy water and small debris. This new nozzle look and feel transforms the VeFoil Jet system into a very high-end commercial grade unit that will last forever.
Anyways, our goal and focus from day one have been to create a multi-use jet system, waterproof remote control, and board that is commercial grade so you can jet surf, efoil, and SUP from one board. Everything we make is built to have smooth throttle control, super stable board for fun, easy learning, and so they can withstand the hardest of elements like hitting bottom, getting dropped, or from renters jet surfing or efoiling.
Through our creative designs, and group/bulk purchasing power when we launch hopefully in 30 days we will pass huge savings on to fell enthusiasts/supporters/backers like you who share our passion for being out on the water and who are helping us with funding and/or insight during this development stage.

Improvements for next set of tests: - 50% lighter shaft and coupler setup - Water inlet cone mod to allow more water in - Increased jet nozzle design for higher flow - 4th blade added to the impeller for increased thrust
