We went here for a group dinner. The drinks were great and the service was really good. We had 18 people and had no issues getting drinks. Unfortunately the food was lame. Lame being the best way to discribe it. Not terrible but just really lame.
Very disappointing once again. A year ago when my family had dinner there in the summer, the quality of the food was noticeably poorer. The server told us that the summer menu have faster prep times so that there is faster turnaround and more focused on beverages not food. After being told that, we knew not to eat there during the summer. So today, a day in fall, we thought we should give them another chance. BIG MISTAKE! Our young daughter had the salmon which she said "tasted bad". I tried it and it tasted spoiled. I spat it into my napkin. My husband smelled it and clearly it was foul. We informed our server who smelled the salmon and her eyes winced and agreed that it was indeed foul. The manager later came and told us that "the salmon came fresh today; the chef said it was fine." It was worse that he implied our taste buds and sense of smell were wrong. It's not a small deal if a child gets food poisoning. We will never eat at Canoe pub again.
Normally really good service. And I quite enjoy this place. Don't know if it's a new server But she's terrible. Her name wasn't even on the bill (which also wasn't correct). Never saw her. Just wasn't there. Waited 10 minutes to order a beer. 10 minutes to get the bill. Like hell I was gonna wait for the debit machine from her. I withdrew cash and left 1% tip, so hopefully she understands the insult. 2 others outside heard us complaining about the service and they also agreed we had the same server. Imagine that. On a positive note, the food was still great. Definitely great place to visit. I just hope any of you reading this don't get the same server we did. Because this one star is just for you unknown server lady.
One of the best patios in Victoria! Service is decent, never thought it was horrible or anything, but nothing special. Not a big fan of their food. I had a New York strip there and it was not good at all. Their beer however is great and have great drink options!
If this place could get a bit better food, it would be a 5 star all day. I’ve been here probably a half dozen times. Cheers
Really great spot. Outdoor patio with fire pits and great views. Was a bit chilly but the wait staff have blankets on standby. The food was high quality and reasonably priced. We moved inside and there was live music. Overall a solid choice for a group outing
Best feature of this place is it's building, it's awesome with lots of history. The food was pretty good as well as the beer. Our server didn't seem overly engaged with us, seeming somewhat distant.
Excellent service, very nice atmosphere, delicious food, and amazing craft beer to sample and even take some home with you. We had a nice birthday dinner out including the kids and the staff were happy to accommodate. We will definitely go back anytime we come to visit Victoria.
Ambience was a bit preppy. Alright place but really not my scene. I was also very let down by the in house brewed ginger beer. ginger beer should not be lemony.. however my waitress was very very nice about it and removed it from my bill since I found it unpleasant
The setting (right on the water) is nice. The food is good. I was last there for a staff function, so I got a sampler of options. As someone who tries to avoid gluten, I found they could produce a lot that of dishes that I could have. Given that pub food is usually some variety of deep-fried something, it was welcome to see.
Everybody has their off days, but with my limited experience of this place (one visit, on 2/18) I don't get it. While not particularly busy, my pregnant wife and I sat at a table. We were fairly promptly given menus and water glasses (no water in them). We waited 40 minutes, but never saw the waiter again, and never got water in our glasses. Again, this is a sole visit experience, but it definitely lost our business.
Two stars because the place seemed cool and had a good group of people.
Prices are upper teens to mid twenties on locally sourced upper end bar food. I wasn't able to taste anything, but the menu was fairly varied. Beers were 7 dollars for an imperial pint (20oz) and they had 8ish taps. Additional bonus, they use locally sourced and environmentally responsible ingredients. I really wanted to try this place out.
