Great choice of vegetarian food. I've been here a few times and usually enjoy the food, atmosphere and service. Last time though neither of us enjoyed our food very much. The nachos were super salty and the laksa was too rich to the point that my hubby - who basically never leaves his plate/bowl empty - could not finish it. Nobody asked how our meal was either and my rule is if they don't ask, I won't give the feedback directly.
It's good, but it just ain't what it used to be. I remember coming here in 2000 and a waitress sat at the table and wanted to have a conversation with me as she realised I was a regular. Now, you're put in the holding pen in a holding pattern while the other fools like you wait forever for a table. It used to feel cool, hip. Like lots of tourism, popularity has destroyed it, and the staff can sometimes have an air of self inflated importance of themselves and the place. It's disappointing to see. It actually needs to be bigger, more staff, more seats. Sometimes the food isn't 100% on, either a bit cold or a bit undercooked. That said, if you go during the day when it's quiet, it's back to it's old self mostly. The food is good, there's no waiting, less rush. It still boasts a fantastic vegetarian menu at great prices. It is a great place to visit, but only go for a lunch during the week.
Vegie Bar is the crown jewel of residents in Fitzroy. All their meals come looking like they were made with love, passion and dedication. The ingredients are always incredibly fresh and beautiful prepared. Meals are incredibly healthy (though a little pricey). The vibe of the place is very 'cool' and hipster, I always feel underdressed. Check it out, the Buddha Bowl is a winner!
Consistently great food. Great value for money. Venue, although great, is often cramped and hard to move around. Staff are always friendly. Good location and indoor or outdoor dining options makes for a great summer lunch spot
Good food and great ambiance. The place was crowded but food was served quick. Would definitely go back.
This place is always packed and for good reason. Speaking as someone who eats meat, I often thought that food without meat lacked flavour and creativity, but this place proved me wrong big time. I've eaten here many times and I try to order something different every time I go. I've never ordered anything thinking "I wish I got the same thing I got last time instead of this". Everything has so much flavour and with such a broad range items to chose from the menu is quite impressive. Service is good and staff are friendly, although there can be a bit of a wait in peak periods.
Lively place. Great crowd and friendly staff. Good vegan options. More salad options are offered. Good for a quick bite.
Food was great, seated straight away at 10pm with a packed restaurant. Food comes out so quick! Well at least at that time it does.
The only let down was the cocktails both my partners and mine weren't balanced. Either too sour or too sweet, with the menu not explaining in detail the cocktail.
I'd suggest wine, beer or a straight spirit to avoid disappointment.
I never really understood Vegie Bar. It's very well loved and because of that almost always packed. I know it's been around for a long time and become a bit famous as the place that veggies and meat eaters love. But i feel now there are so many places that make much better vegan food and even better priced.
I have given this place a few chances as just in case I ordered the wrong thing, but never been happy. The ice cream place they opened next door is pretty good though. And the staff are all great.
Other great veggie food around try triply taco, Cornish arms, the fox hotel, red sparrow pizza, loving hut or even lord of the fries across the road.
With that without a doubt the Vegie Bar has taken vegetarian stroke vegan food to the next level. With this enthusiastic staff amazing setting chilled out customer's and all round fantastic flavours in the food why wouldn't you want to be a veggie or a vegan. I love taking my daughter 7 and my wife to this joint every single time it hits the money love it love it love it five stars keep it up guys.
An iconic location in Brunswick Street. High quality and delicious vegetarian food. Highly recommend for vegetarians and non-vegetarians. Meals as a rule are large so consider sharing.
The atmosphere is incredible. It's like being in a New York loft with all your vegan friends! Food is fantastic, you have to try the golden latte it changed my life. Staff are always lovely and the food is reasonably priced.
Stalwart of the street. Great business system. Good staff. Responsible local citizen. I just don't eat vegetarian that often. Have been around long enough to appreciate the contribution this business makes to many others
A absolute great experience here. Great vegetarian food and extremely good value. Friendly waiters always ask if you need anything. Place can become a bit crowded at times and parking can be hard to find. But get past that and it's perfect.
