I have taken several dogs to SASH. In emergency there was a chocolate ingestion issue & the staff wasted no time with a quick assessment & procedure to remove the chocolate which my dog had ingested. At all times I was kept informed & updated on treatment progress. I began going to SASH when it first began operations at North Ryde. Although it has grown a great deal over the decades the dedication has remained the same as has the expertise & professionalism of the staff.
Recently I took another of my dogs for rehab & physio & I was very impressed with the assessment & treatment both on the day & also the ongoing regime to ensure a successful outcome.
I did not find price excessive when compared to numerous vet visits & tests which just resulted in pain killers & not a therapeutic solution.. This year even with pet insurance it has cost me in excess of $10,000 for vetcare prior to going to SASH & only after going to SASH was there active resolution of the problems. Being open 24/7 & treating owners & their pets in a friendly & competent manner is a great relief & a blessing.
If you want the best go straight to SASH. You will save money in the long run.

Just some quick feed back on the lack of service from this place that is supposed to be one of the top recommended places in our area. Our dog was not very well looked after.( our dog had a fall and cut its back leg )
I am appalled and discussed, at the care that my dog received . Being a week end they could not even do the basics of a simple x-ray or sedation and all they did was pain management antibiotics and had received a bill for $1400.00. ( Over night stay ) Part of this bill included a bandage for $150.00 Really cmon !!! .

We took our DSH cat to see their eye specialist. We were advised by the local vet to ensure we see a specific doctor and when we made the appointment we stated so. Receptionist confirmed the appointment with the recommended specialist.

We rang a few days later to check something else. We also confirmed the appointment at the time. We were told that the appointment was with another specialist and not the one we originally requested or confirmed. No explanation given or apology for the change without notice. Score reduced to 4 stars.

We proceeded with the appointment. The specialist we saw was great. She was thorough and helpful and good with the cat. Her differential diagnosis was excellent and accurate (as proven later after tests).

They are pricey as hell though. Consult was $250. Medicine quote was ~$200/month. Quote for the procedure to fix our cats eye was $3000.

We ended up getting the meds across the road from the vet chemist (one of two in Sydney I believe) for a fraction of the quoted price from SASH.

We ended up getting the surgery from our local vet for $800.

Score reduced to 3 stars for the blatant price gouging. Not reduced to 2 stars for price only because the specialist we saw was very good and helpful and didn't pressure us to have the surgery with them.

I have used SASH many times over a number of years now, for my own cats, and various foster cats and dogs belonging to Sydney Pet Rescue & Adoption. I have gotten to know this hospital quite well over the years. I can't speak highly enough of the high standard of care, and brilliant outcomes on some very complex cases. I have always found the veterinary staff, especially the specialists, to be very thorough in their assessment, strategic with treatment, and caring in their approach. Whilst it can seem expensive at times, in my experience, no more than other specialist hospitals. It is a specialist service, and treatment has been life saving for our animals, so I see the costs as an investment in saving our pets' lives, and in helping us to be able to manage complex medical conditions, which gives our furkids a better quality of life. I would highly recommend SASH, and encourage pet parents to consider taking out pet insurance, to help make treatment costs more manageable.
Pet parents can also google a service called Vetpay, which is a potential way for pet parents to be able to pay off veterinary costs.

Early Sunday evening, we found a very small baby ring tail possum on the road outside our house and called SASH. We were invited to drop it in and were very pleased we did so as we were assured it would get the care it needed. Wonderful, professional, prompt service for a Sunday night and wouldn't even except a donation for the possum's care - referred us to donate to WIRES instead.

I took my beautiful little rat here recently. Unfortunately we had to have him put down. We were treated very well, by our vet, they went out of the way to service us and waited nearly an hour for my partner to turn up after finding out we'd have to have our beautiful boy down.

They cared, and gave us the time we needed with our pet.

I received a 'with sympathy card' in the following weeks from the practice. I can't tell you what it meant to my partner and I.

He was our heart rat, and they let us know that they understood how much he meant to us.

I wouldn't hesitate to come back.

Always friendly and willing to go the extra mile to make sure your pet is absolutely healthy. When they had my pup over night, they called to give me updates every few hours and confirmed any tests and procedures before they did them. Feel so confident in their ability

Diagnosed my dog with her condition within 24 hours, which took our local vet 3 days to even suggest a cause of her problems. Well worth the travel the cost. Always seek a second opinion, and go to SASH.

They did look after my dog, while she was there. But what they wanted to do in surgery by removing her shoulder blade and the cost of it was out of this world. they also told us if we didn't she would only have 3 months to live. i would of done everything and anything for my girl but to be pushed like a salesman I couldn't do it.
Well writing this review she is still with us. and it has been 2 and half years.
and she still has all four legs. not 3.
