Where do I start??
My partner and I stayed in Airlie Beach for 3 nights, so with only having this short amount of time, the accommodation was an important part of our stay! We were really excited to arrive, as we had communicated with Peter before our stay. He seemed very friendly and helpful, and offered to book some trips for us.
When we arrived, the reception area was right next to the inside pool area. I personally wouldn't feel comfortable stripping down to swimwear and going for a swim right in front of where he sits at his desk??
We were then shown to our villa, this is where it hit us. It was a SHARED villa. We were given a tiny bedroom with no privacy in a four bedroom villa shared with three other couples. And this is meant to be a retreat? We and some of the other couples in the villa agreed that the wording on his advertisements are completely misleading and did not realise we would be sharing this villa with other guests! DONT BE FOOLED!
The bedroom consisted of tiny floor space, a shower inside the room (so there is no privacy to shower if you wanted it), a TV on the bedside table, only a few inches from where your head would lie on the bed and a shared balcony. This place just has no sense of privacy what so ever. Then we found our bedroom didn’t even have a working lock. So first we find out we are sharing a villa, then find out we can't lock our bedroom!!
We decided that we didn't want to stay in this villa, as we had such high expectations and it had basically ruined our whole first day as we were so confused by the whole situation that we decided to go and tell Pete how we felt. We explained that the wording online needs to be much clearer and that we didn't feel comfortable staying in a shared villa. We may as well have been staying in a posh hostel. He was not at all welcoming to our comments and when i proceeded to say that we will not be staying here anymore (i told him to keep our first night’s stay charge but would not expect him to charge me for the next two nights as he can re-sell the room) he said he would have to speak to 'the owner' and that he cannot authorise a refund of the remaining charges. Speak to the owner??? I thought he was the owner! Funny how this changed as soon as a complaint arises. He spoke to one of the other couples in the villa and when they also said they did not realise it was shared but they were going to stay anyway he told them that we 'are just typical English and expect too much'. It's not like we haven't travelled from the other side of the world so having high expectations is completely acceptable don't you think?? When we left, i sent him an email confirming we had left and to speak to the 'owner' about our concerns. Still to this day i have not received a response, and the full 3 nights charge was taken from my card. Completely and utterly disappointed. Be careful when booking this place - you might not get what you expect..
A few other points to consider:
-The villas are situated on a very steep bank. We are a young couple and even we would not consider walking up and down this bank every day.
- The Wi-Fi is only situated in the main building (up the bank at the top of the hill) so no Wi-Fi is available in the SHARED villas.
- When using the toilet, the only ventilation is a small window, so be careful your housemates aren't on the shared balcony at this point!!
- Our window of our bed was in full view of anybody outside using the shared sun deck.
- I would definitely consider hiring a car if you decide to stay here, it would not be worth the constant taxi fares.
- You can hear each other’s conversations while you’re in your own bedroom.
- Living room uncomfortable, very cheap sofa type beds would be the best way to describe the 'sofas'. Only two small 'sofas' in front of the TV so you would feel confined to your bedroom every night.
- Kitchen seemed cheap and not much space for storing food considering the amount of people living in a villa.
Only good thing was the view!!!response / report this review -
