We would give a 5star for the nature reserve as it is absolutely beautiful, such a nice breakaway, peaceful, lovely views and hikes. Unfortunately the accommodation was a 1star experience, we stayed in the cottages and when we arrived it hasn't been cleaned for 2 days so previous guests' food were still there, dirt everywhere, dirty towels, no toilet paper, broken eggs on the kitchen floor. All in all very disappointed in the accommodation and terrible value for money. But would return for a day trip to enjoy the reserve. The road allows for easy access by all.

Stunning reserve. One of my favourites around Howick. There are great hikes and beautiful picnic spots. I would definitely recommend coming here.

Could have been 5 stars, except the bathroom needed attention (Moldy shower and ceiling, dirty walls, threadbare poor quality towels.) Loved everything else about this place. Would stay again.

At about 1km from Howick town Umgeni valley nature reserve offers peace, quiet, some adventure (the office will happily assist) and some wildlife within minutes. One is likely to see the resident zebras, maybe wildebeest, without even leaving the chalets!
