Fat Cactus was suggested to us by one of our friends after a very disappointing experience at the tacos and tequila event a couple of weeks ago. For ambience this venue gets full marks. Margaritas again, full marks. (You can even mix the flavours, which is awesome!)

We ordered the poppers for starters and they were perfect. For mains we ordered the tacos and nachos. Tacos get another rave rating, but the nachos was a bit of a let down.. I was expecting a great tomato base with all the trimmings, but was a little let down when I received an average plate of bland nachos with veggies on the side.

I will definitely return to try the other dishes, though. :)

Great drinks! The Black Label Iceberg is amazing! Friendly staff and great service. My favorite spot in Cape Town.

Only ever had drinks once here which doesn't make for enough of an experience to judge but I'd like to thank Brett for making breakfast service such a pleasure upon my second visit. Wanted coffee and then green tea but because the machine was down the manager took it upon himself to purchase coffee next door on the house to make up for its unavailability. Although I asked for it to be added to my bill he felt it was the least the restaurant could do. Awesome value for money with the breakfast, where you would pay twice as much for toast, eggs, bacon and the works elsewhere in the neighbourhood.

Fat Cactus definitely knows how to do service and I'll probably be popping in again sometime!

    Thanks guys!

This is our favorite Mexican restaurant go to. We absolutely love it here. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food never disappoints. The fat cactus is great for a really chilled and relaxing lunch or cocktails In the evening. It can get a little busy in the evening but it’s worth the wait as it has a really great Cape Town Vibe. Although it is best to book a table in the evening if you are going in a large group.

Great food! I highly recommend the big cheese nachos or pulled pork tacos. The frozen margaritas are also excellent and I also recommend to try the iceberg (beer topped with frozen lime margarita). This place is full and vibrant most nights and it can get a bit full on weekends so try to arrive early to ensure you get a table or make a reservation.

Great ambient music. Food and the jugs of frozen margarita are always good quality. Parking is always an issue, so best to Uber or carpool.

I went here for lunch today at the recommendation of a friend and they definitely met my expectations. I'm a Texas-native and I love visiting places with that theme just to judge them.

I wouldn't know how to rate the strawberry margarita because I don't drink that much but it tasted fine. Just enough alcohol for a buzz but not enough to spoil the taste. The kalamari tacos I had, however, were amazing. Made with a great taste that balanced perfectly. I got a very small portion of refried beans unfortunately but they were still great anyway! I'm just happy to have found a place in South Africa that seasons food so well. My waiter was really sweet and attentive also. Next time I'm here again, I'll be back.

Delicious Mexican cuisine combined with a relaxed, warm atmosphere. Their jugs are really good value for money, and basically everything on the menu is great - their chili poppers aren't Rick's, but they're pretty close to being as perfect. Great, friendly service and reasonably priced.

Good vibe and good Mexican food but can get overcrowded in evenings. Not recommended for those looking for a quiet evening.

The Fat Cactus is a great spot for a catch up with friends. My colleagues and I often come here to hang out outside of work. The venue has a lively vibe, the food is good (if you're a big group, I suggest ordering the platters) and drinks are reasonably priced. You can't leave without having a gingerbread tequila or two.

Prefer this Fat Cactus a lot more than the one in Mowbray. The food is of much better quality.

Try the blue cheese & bacon burger, it's an awesome mix of mexican flavors and your standard Cape Town burger. It is a bit spicy so don't try it if you're sensitive to spices.

The house craft beer is also really good.

Food was really good, very popular place. Can be a lot of fun and a good vibe. It's very noisey so don't go here if you want a quiet evening. Nice for big tables and group gatherings although the waitress did charge our bill wrong had to pay in R350 extra for items not supposed to be on the bill. Unfortunately we only figured this out when checking the bill the next day.
