Sadly what caught my eye the most was the large amount of alien vegetation, especially Lantana. Why no effort is made to clear it is beyond me!
The hides on the dam are also in a sorry state. There was no shortage of day visitors so the money was coming in😂Lots of game and friendly, cheeky Giraffe!

This is an AWESOME place for family bonding & SUPER excellent for company getaways. It's perfect for team building The environment is relaxed & laid back. The permanent residents (giraffes, deers, monkeys & wild pigs) don't even mind sharing their habitat with visitors Some of them will even join you whilst you'll are relaxing & taking in the surroundings & IF you sleep in A giraffe makes a point of waking you up!!! Great game drives are available + a rustic restaurant is also on location, just in case your food gets pinched by prankster monkeys!!! I had an interesting episode, during one of my showers A wild pig made its way into my cubicle & started grunting away Huh? Such a pig!!! LOL.

Awesome day trip from Durban. The rest areas are well maintained, animals are plentiful and easy to find. Weekdays are pretty quiet.

Such a beautiful place here. Giraffs, rhinos, hippos, ostriches And such a great landscape. Enjoyed every stay here. Just a tip: don't follow the road with the signs with the white circle on it, you will get stuck.

Small but well worth the visit. Not the big 5 but good number of Rhino. OK for a car but 4x4 us better for the extra roads only available to 4x4 vehicles. Staff very happy and helpful but the bar, restaurant and shop not unsurprisingly expensive even for overseas tourist. Take your own picnic or BBQ supplies for a great day out.

Haven't been there for years. Was nice to go back. Pity service in restaurant is still super slow. Area around A Frames look a bit tattered. Rest nice. Still worth a visit

We loved our stay at Tala - the leadwood cottages are just amazing, the game drives were eventful, self drives were equally amazing, and we would have loved to stay another day or two! Just as picturesque as the website suggests.

We had an absolutely amazing time at Tala it is such a stunning place; it is situated in such a beautiful location. We enjoyed the peacefulness and tranquility of the reserve. There were many animals that we saw. There is a beautiful lake which during migration time we can see plenty of birds. A great place to visit.

Very disappointed with the accommodation. The bathroom and bedroom were old and dirty. The bathroom cupboard was completely rotten, the curtains and carpet need a good clean. The bed had no mattress protector and the sheets were too small so I woke up sleeping on a bare mattress. The bath water was brown and no drinking water in the rooms. I did send an email to the general manager with a list of my complaints and he told me that he was shocked that the staff allowed anyone in the room in that state, that he was going to do major repairs before renting out again. This was not an isolated complaint as we were a big party and everyone was disappointed. The whole place desperately needs a makeover. Such a pity because it was lovely years ago.

just a hop out of Durban lies this jewel. Everyone should take a drive through this estate. What a treat to see all this game in our back yard and kudos to the owners and staff for maintaining this park to such high standards

Quite expensive for a day trip and the hides are in a poor state of repair. Animal viewing was good, but they only have Rhino from the big 5. There are some nice 4x4 only trails for a bit of excitement while exploring. Restaurant was nice, although we only stopped for drink.

I travel to Tala Game Reserve on almost a weekly basis as a tour guide. Tala Game Reserve has never failed to dissapoint me or my clients. Tala is a fairly small game reserve that has quite a variety of antelope and other species but no predators (with the exception of the black backed Jackal).

Tala is also fantastic for birding, with over 300 different species being recorded.

For families visiting Tala, there's a fantastic picnic area with a pool to help break up the heat of the day. I highly recommend it.

Lovely place to visit within less than half an hours drive out of Pietermaritzburg. Despite the drought that they have been through the animals are in great condition (can't say the same about the roads). We saw a herd of giraffes (with young ones) that had us sitting with them for over an hour they were so beautiful. We also had the pleasure of watching love play between ostriches ~ what a show!
