Maybe the best camp to visit for game spotting. The popular S100 route in my view the best in the Kruger. Start early and drive SLOWLY. Aim for a brunch (NO restaurants!!!) at NWANETSI and return via tarred road. Repeat this daily and reverse route every fourth day.
Satara is the second largest camp of the Kruger and arranged in Circles (A to F) with bits of nature in the camp. Reservation/occupation of Satara is all year round close to 100%. This is especially evident in the Caravan park where grassy areas is absent. All because of popular demand.response / report this review -

I am most disappointed in Satara Rest Camp, located in the heart of the Kruger National Park this was always an essential stopover for tourists and visitors to the park, things have changed. To start off the gardens are no longer maintained, plants are dead and what used to be stunning parks are now overgrown and uncared for, what has happened? The restaurant that always served spectacular meals now serves food that tastes like it has been cooked by toddlers. Come on Satara, I know and many other people know that you can do much better! The shop is the
camps only lifesaver now and as it is still well stocked with stunning curious. Overall, if I have to be honest I would say give Satara a skip, there are many camps in the southern Kruger that are much more maintained.response / report this review -

My favourite rest camp in the Kruger National Park. Nestled in the heart of Kruger i have never been let down by the service or activities offerd at the Camp. Enjoyable times spent walking around the camp or enjoying the bush views. With its central location you can plan your routes accordingly exploring further north towards the Oliphants Rest camp or diwn south towards Tshokwane and Lower Sabie. Orpen camp and gate is another option. The open plains offer wonderful sigjtings around the area. Definitely a camp to stay at if you are planning a Kruger holiday.

A large camp with many chalets but clustered in smaller circles so the "small and personal" feel is retained. The usual well stocked Parks Shop which can get busy near closing time at 7pm. The two restaurants in the main building are closed (?) but a new quaint "rustic kitchen " has opened at the day visitors area. Outdoor movies, a small environmental center and a pool/play area are welcome facilities. The campsite is large but scattered trees offer some seclusion.

Satara is a new favorite camp of mine in the park. I absolutely love the new food options, as there is something for everyone in the family. Satara is also a great central location for exploring the park, and it lies in a location where large herds and cats are usually found.

Great location for viewing wildlife with many animals present nearby. However the bungalow we stayed in was not very clean and the fittings were very dated. It was definitely the worst of the Sanparks lodgings we stayed at. Few dining options. The restaurant was closed so only takeaway pizza or food from the onsite shop were available.

Satara camp is centrally located in the Kruger National Park, and is renowned for its Lion and predator abundance.
We had a fence based unit but were not right on the fence although nothing to obstruct our view. The units are set out in a horse shoe type arrangement and ideally unit 167 is the nearest the fence and much more private.
The unit had an external kitchen with all necessary facilities which included: Fridge, stove top and sink.
Moving inside created a great bush feel Thatched rood it had was fully furnished with two single beds Air con and ceiling fan. To my confusion an external basin in the main sleeping area with a plug point for charging items, typically a moment of weakness while using the basin splattered water all over my devices, fortunately nothing got damaged.
The bathroom was very petite yet clean enough for one at a time the shower was constantly hot but water pressure was very low.
Conclusion: The camp is well located, has a nice store with majority of what you need from drinks, to meat, even minor camping necessities. Just a reminder if you plan on buying Alcohol bring your book in slips as it is a requirement. A nice pool area and lots of activities provide entertainment for children, but no childcare services are available.
We find this the best camp for a night drive and rather do a night drive over a sunset one.

In Feb 2017 as a large family group we booked the Wells Guest House plus a 3 bed bungalow. A couple of niggling faults with the accommodation and the Wells Guesthouse had one room with a very bad smell - maybe the shower drain dried out? Otherwise that expensive unit is everything that up to 8 people would need. And being close to the fence you can sit at the dining table watching the external wildlife.It was a bit of a shock to find NO WIFI on camp AT ALL when we needed to do the flight check-in! Take-Away pizza closing at 7pm was another cultural shock! Nice little swimming pool. I would have liked to give it 5 * but did only 4* due to the accommodation. I would stay there again as it has outstanding access to wildlife - despite the cyclone that struck two days before

Its a beautiful camp and would love to go back. Very safe and they play a movie/documentary which is very interesting every night.
