International Tourists - Must read before booking

The star is for the amazing scenery and natural wildlife.

The location suffers from very poor communication signal meaning phones will often fail to connect calls, even within the premises to reception. We almost resigned to finding other accommodation when the gates intercom wouldn't connect us to reception when we arrived late on the first night.

Every time we needed something, we had to drive or walk to reception, because the cabin we stayed in didn't have a phone and our mobile phones (Vodacom) couldn't get any signal.

My wife and I took a walk in what we believed was a safe area. (staff had told us we could walk anywhere on the reserve) We ended up getting stuck in a swamp area covered with thorns. Unfortunately my wife wasn't wearing correct gear and her legs had suffered some nasty scratches. She called Gareth (owner) to rescue us with his 4x4. He only answered our phone call (thank goodness we had some reception) after my wife had attempted 7 times to call him for assistance. He was sorry , responding that he doesn't like to answer international numbers because of spam. (which is ironic because he hosts international tourists)

The next day a power outage in the region occurred. After a short stint on the generators, the owner decides to turn them off and leave the site powerless to save money. (He assumed everyone had left for the day), however he did turn it back on when we asked.

Other little things which included the TV not working and taking 2 days to get fixed. The dials on the stove had the numbers rubbed off so we were unable to tell what the settings where. The Fridge was so noisy it reverberated throughout the whole house. And there is no internet except for at the guest house, which was a fair distance away.

My wife booked this place because she bought into the reviews and hype made about the place, but for the amount of money being asked, they need to deliver on the smaller finer points. Most importantly, they need to improve the communication systems by installing phones in each cabin to the reception, ensuring the gate communication works, responding to tenant inquiries and installing some repeaters to boost the internet signal strength in the area.

If you are staying one night, then this place if great and you can live with the small problems, but when you decide to book 3 or more days, these little things become big problems. Look around, you might find better value for your $$

Breathtaking views from the lakeside villas, extremely helpful hosts (Gareth), pleasant visit by zebras and kids enjoyed the Jacuzzi. The unit is very well equipped for self catering. Location is perfect for time away from the city life. We will definitely visit in winter for a snow experience. Thanks Gareth

Just the most perfect setting for fresh mountain air, walking, swimming, riding and more. Can't think of a better place for a family and friends get-together. Think it would be really special in winter, too. Can't wait to go again.

This is one of the most amazing escapes you could find. A total gem at the foot of the Sani Pass where the views and scenery captivate you as they change with the light during the day. The accommodation is magic. The welcome you get on arrival, service and luxury and comfort of the lodges is great. There is so much to do and for the kids the dam, fishing, bird watching and climbing to the beacon was simply an amazing time for them all.

I highly recommend Sani Valley Nature lodges, we will back.
