My stay was not pleasant at all as there was a dog that belonged to one of the managers inside the hotel reception.
Even if the hotel is the so called pet friendly hotel as it was sighted by one of the staff members. I strongly felt harassed by that dog

Lovely via point when travelling from Gauteng to Natal, staff is always friendly and rooms are great. There are quite a few restaurants to choose from down the road (like 50m).
Some of the rooms' showers could do with some retiling, bit other than that, a perfect stay!

What a gem,

I usually drive straight from JHB to DBN and vice versa. Had vehicle trouble and after a long days work and being very tired and irritated what a warm welcome. My hat off to the staff for the hospitality at Protea Montrose.

I see many people complain regarding food, yet the Highlander Pub offer a wonderful proudly South African choice of a T-bone steak or Rump steak with salad.

A special thank you to Ancois for her professionalism and coffee adding a homely touch to my stay.

My friend and I stayed for a night, clean room friendly staff. Sherry at reception was nice after coming in from the cold. And the bar was very cheap. You can even braai indoors. Chesanyama!!

Was a great experience. Sherry was waiting for us as we checked in from the cold Free State weather, with a cozy fire at reception. Even the rooms were warm. Will definitely stop over again.

Not great, take away menu does not qualify to room service, so cannot even be three star. Patrons parking permanently in the entrance and management unable to move them. What a disappointment.

Nice clean stop over. Very comfortable rooms and friendly staff. Only down part is you have to walk about 700m to the restaurants for dinner or breakfast which isn't always easy in winter. Would highly recommend it though.
