This is a great outing for anyone - families, school groups, couples or even individuals. The zoo is situated in the Johannesburg city and is very well maintained. A large variety of animals can be viewed here, including the big five, chimpanzees and a special section dedicated to the Amazon. There is a restaurant on the premise, but the lovely grass lawns calls for a picnic.

Excellent spot. Great variety of animals. The food stalls are everyware and have great food choices. Cheap prices as well which is surprising for places like this. 500g Ribs with chips for R70. Not bad at all. The food was amazing. Truly. I am a big food lover myself and I have to say the food was well prepared. Big portions but not massive. Just enough. For the price it is well worth it. Not a single bad experience here at this zoo. i was particularly impressed by the way the reptiles were cared for as well. . Excellent husbandry. I would recommend to anyone. Also the place is very very clean.

The zoo is looking lovely, animals seem healthy, the enclosures are well kept and the public areas neat with the exceptions of the toilets. Great new additions since my last visit years ago, impressive. Upsetting to see some people being disrespectful to the animals, shouting at them, banging on the glass and some even spitting at them! There really should be plain clothes people walking around to stop this kind of behaviour- disgusting! That aside we had a great day at the zoo and would definitely recommend it.

Nice family day. Enough to keep a family busy for the whole day. Easy parking. Well kept lawns. Lot's of toilets everywhere - not all of them clean. Animal viewing much better at Pretoria Zoo though.

Best time ever. So green. The lawn is well looked after. The parks are clean. And the animals are fulfilling. I even used this place when I proposed to my girlfriend And she said yes

The grounds of the Johannesburg Zoo are magnificent. It is massive park filled with a great variety of trees and lawns. It offers more than a zoo and visiting it is like a day out in nature. It is a fully accessible venue for persons using wheelchairs. An ideal venue for a picnic.

Lovely trees in the zoo but a lot of litter and a few of the enclosures were under contruction so not as many animals as we thought. But the animals are well looked after. Was a nice day out.

Was amazed at the changes. So much to see. Love animals so much but was rather heartbroken to see animals confined in their spaces. Yet people especially children can get to see the different animals so it serves its purpose. Thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the zoo.

I was very happy to see that the zoo is still well taken care of. The grounds are well maintained and tidy, the bathrooms are clean and the animals look well fed and cared for. The new parking upgrades look promising to better accommodate all the visitors to the zoo. I'm not sure if it's because I went in winter, but some of the enclosures look a bit dry and some animals don't have any grass at all. But overall it's a delightful place for a picnic and it offers a fantastic variety of wildlife to see.

Love this place. It's really big, great to take kids and have a picnic. Decent size animal enclosures. The amazon center is great- all the bats and tree frogs are fascinating and beautiful.
