Very efficient service right from the front door, and the wait wasn't long. Keep it up guys

Super efficient and friendly service (today 28 Dec) Had to renew my driver's licence, was in and out in an hour! They sorted out a bit of a hiccup I had, in minutes. Well done you people, you are tops!

My license expired in October, I went to this place to renew but that was way before it expired on the 15 the of October.
As a foreigner there is a procedure of verifying with the home affairs was told I will get a call in a week's time nothing happened.
Went back spoke to a guy there, he told me wait you will get a call.
Now we are in December I am still waitingnot only waiting but driving with an expired license. (Traffic cops out there; please don't arrest us it's not our fault)
I can't do backdoor papers like what others will do after such frustration.
That's why people opt to do it their way, especially if the right way of doing things is draining like this.

Make sure you go to your own optometrist and get the purple form from them if renewing your driver'slicense!! The equipment at the Traffic department is to be desired. And don't forget your own pen!! Set aside a good 2hrs if everything goes "smoothly".

Prepared for a long wait and lots of people this Saturday mid-morning to renew my driver's licence. Instead, I was first in the queue with friendly and efficient service.

Renewed my driver's license here 2 days ago. Found out I had an infringement against my name for a camera speed fine that happened in Johannesburg in December 2017 while driving a rental car. Paid the fine at ABSA bank and went back to do the renewal/eye test. By now the queue had swollen to about 40 people waiting to have the eye test done. The people testing are friendly BUT will NOT miss a tea time break! In a room with 3 officials, two of them got up and took their break and left only one soul to try and negotiate the mountain of tests that had to be done. This made for very, very slow progress. I feel sorry for the senior citizens that have to sit there for so long. Anyway, spent about 2.5 hours here until I got my temporary license in my hand. The place is clean, the staff is friendly but 90% of the complaints are about the time it takes to have the eye tests done. Also, putting down a coffee vending machine there, is a MUST!

Thanks for your department’s incredible ability to test TWO people’s eyes in an hour today. I wasted my entire afternoon, along with other people in the line who have lives and needed to leave too.

It is insulting that we are forced to wait around for hours with no notification of the delay. A truly terrible experience, and you are doing this to people who are trying to comply with the law and stay on the road legally with a valid license.

I was worried after reading all the negative reviews about getting one's driver's licence renewed here and even took a day off work just in case So you can imagine the pleasant surprise when it was all over in 40 minutes! The service is fantastic, full-stop. Even the staff in training at enquiries knew exactly what to say and everyone was very friendly.

I went on a Thursday at 10:50 and was out by 11:30. There were about 5 people in the queue. The first 10 minutes was spent going to the photo booth across the road and getting ID photos (R50 for 4 - you only need 1), then off to enquiries for the paperwork, filling in the form on the way to the eye test (take a pen along!) and finally paying at the cashier. I opted not to get a temporary licence (the receipt extends your licence by 3 months). So basically you can just pitch up with your ID, your old licence, proof of residence, R190 and a pen and you should be sorted :-)

Today at 8am (Saturday 08/12/2018) i had to wait 2 hours before i left the premises of Durbanville Traffic Department with a closed gate and a lot of people coming there with traffic related forms to be signed and processed ,just to be faced with a closed gate and no sign anywhere to say why they are closed. You seem to be turning into ESKOM just deciding when you wish to work and when to call it a day off.
Traffic fines seem to be a 'must pay' otherwise you get in trouble , but what happens when the departments that you should go to to sort out these papers decides when they wish to work even when the times clearly states on your official website page that you will be open.

You are costing people money with petrol and time
'Operating hours may change without prior notification' is a lazy way of saying you will work when you feel like it As a durbanville citizen I think you should be ashamed of your poor service and lack of commitment to your job which you are being payed for monthly and not payed on dates that may change without prior notification.

8 Sept 2018. Renewed my drivers license. Local, provincial and national government could learn valuable and nation changing lessons through the high and excellent levels of customer service delivered by this local traffic department. Well done to the manager and team of Durbanville Traffic Department. Excellence through normal service deserves acknowledgement.

You have to take a days leave to renew your drivers licence. You spend up to 3 hours in the Que's, the staff itself is not THAT bad but they don't do anything to speed up the process. That is annoying. And the traffic officers waltz in telling the public, "hope you packed your lunch!"
    Really!?!
    They are horribly under staffed

I've been a number of times to Durbanville Traffic Department, everything from forms to my learner's and driving tests. Every time I have received excellent service from friendly and competent staff. I think it would be necessary for the department to be expanded and employ more staff, but the folks working there are doing a fabulous job. Five stars, keep it up :)

If only I could give zero stars. Just another useless government institution winning the NO SERVICE award Pathetic to the max!!! When the queue is short, the rude staff will make up for that with their disgusting manners. When I came there, they were offline (which they have no control over), this I can understand, but at least make it the hell possible to call before hand so I don't waste my %&$@ time and fuel!!! The phone just rings forever and ever, if they even have a phone I only dealt with the 1 guy there, so I'm only referring to him when I say 'staff'. He must think he is a king I was so shocked with his irritated and 'know it all' attitude, even the people behind me gasped with shock. I couldn't ever hear him properly. This place should seriously go check in with the army, they need some manners. And so should all government institutions before we have nothing good left for our children to build a future with.

This traffic department seriously needs to work on their customer skills and how to talk to people. It's very neat and clean, however something needs to be ASAP with regards to staff motivation. When lines are full and you see someone taking strain help out in that department if possible.

This place is a joke. I want to put a 0 rating but I can't. Got 2 fat lazy woman behind the paying tills for eye tests once they eventually done. So work on 10 min per eye test and have 2 tellers open yawning and just getting fatter by the hours as they don't have anything to do. Then the line for collections and renewals and etc is all the same line. I have been is the same line for a hour a time and I thought maybe just maybe I can go to one of these fat lazy morons that do nothing and give my collection paper and then they can do 15 steps to go get the new licence. Oh boy was I wrong. Wrong counter I am told again while I must wait in line with everyone renewing it like I did 2 weeks ago. Shame on you useless people. Fire 1 of those useless fat people collecting money as it's only used once every 15 minutes you dumb morons. Not to mention 2 tills open for renewals and collections and 1 is always in the loo or a tea break. Seems to happen every 10 min in that hell hole

I have been waiting for my drivers license for 6 months now. I have done everything I could to follow up with these people. I have been to your offices. I have called you countless times, not once have you ever answered my calls, do phones exist there. You are not reliable, I have never seen such an incompetent bunch of people. You promised to give me feedback the last time I spoke to your manager and you took my contact details and that was 3 months after my renewal application, I haven't heard from you since then till today. You are a disgrace. You do not deserve to be servicing the public. You couldn't even give me progress regarding my application after 3 months. I have relocated and I have been trying to contact you all this time. I do not know how people like you sleep at night knowing that you fail to uphold to your duties of servicing the people in a manner that is efficient, helpful with some sense of urgency. My temporary license is expired, yet you sitting there not bothered. I regret to have ever set foot in that building.

Went to renew my already expired drivers licence. I went at about 8:45 on a Tuesday and the place was nearly empty. Took me about 20min in total filling in forms, doing an eye test and paying R185 (including late fine and re-issue of temp licence - take cash). Not to bad for a government facility.
