  The old Calitzdorp railway station has been saved, the new owners converted the buildings into a B & B type hotel. They must be appreciated for their noteworthy contribution because so many old railway stations in the Karoo are being stripped and the building material is recycled.

  Calitzdorp Station -- with an electic mix of historical and new, the ticket office, shed, ablutions,original station master's home and the developing camping site offer the ideal visiting space for backpackers, campers, caravaners, bikers, workshoppers; and families stopping over to explore the excitement of the Cango Caves and Ostrich farms in nearby Oudtshoorn.
  Climbing the water tower to watch the sun set over red peaks while enjoying a glass of port or wine from the nearby award winning cellars,and then watching the bats flit past while the resident owl lulls with its soft calls, remains as a perfect picture long after one has left.
  Optional supper and breakfast, and of course, the Nespresso coffee make for an unforgettable experience.
  That is why the Port Festival showcasing South Africa's best port is being held here every two years!
  And that's why I've stayed and would love to share my space with you.
