This place is not safe. My friend and I were robbed at gunpoint, in broad daylight. Unfortunate because it looks really nice. We saw lots of birds and a duiker before we got mugged.

A cool easy walk to do with friends. But be aware it is quite secluded and not the best kept nature reserve. You may see monkeys or small buck. And there is a braai area at the bottom gate outside the park.

This is a relatively easy hike. The viewing deck has beautiful views of the umgeni River and lagoon area.

I was at Burman Bush this weekend on the 4th of Feb 2017. Sat outside the parking lot for about 30 minutes because the gate was closed and there was absolutely no activity inside. Eventually asked a gardener what to do and he stated that you push the gate and just walk. He did show us the map and advised us to walk alongside the periphery of the reserve. I enjoy hiking and have been to a few nature reserves and it was actually really disappointing. The reserve is filled with litter, the bush is over grown so a no. of times we had to go back and take another trail because the trail was completely blocked or inaccessible. It is difficult to know where you are going with very little signs and poor trails (at one put I was on all fours trying to get to the finish). You would also be able to see the surrounding a whole lot better if the trees, shrubs and bush was well kept. The whole time we were there we only saw 2 gardeners and that is certainly not enough to maintain the place. My overall advise to people wanting to go there is " you could.. but there are other reserves in Durban which make for better hikes and picnics".

Needs to be better managed and maintained in my opinion.
