We tried the 6 course tasting menu for the first time. What an amazing gustatory experience. Definitely the best in Durban. I look forward to seeing this gem of a restaurant making the Eat Out awards nominees for best restaurant. Can't wait to return.

One of the finest dining experiences we've had in the city. We decided on the tasting menu with wine pairing for our anniversary dinner. Each dish was an experience on its own, finely plated with flavours beautifully balanced. It is essential to add the wine pairing, as it not only compliments the food, but that it would give you some insight to the fine list of wines which the restaurant has on offer. We will be back.

9th Avenue Bistro is an intimate restaurant. I must say I haven’t received such warm hospitality in a while. Service was great! The restaurant offers a different touch and experience. The menu is delicate and well considered . The food was served just in time. The food was completely fresh! Loved the experience.

BREATHTAKING.absolutely breathtaking. I was utterly blown away by 9th Avenue Bistro: you will be too.Sheer sublimity from start to finish. Creative, cutting-edge cuisine served in a classy, but relaxed, setting. Excellent service from staff who are both knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the food and wines on offer. The food itself just shines from the plate. Every mouthful is a delight, the ingredients just scream with freshness and originality. Worth every. single. cent. I immediately booked for lunch tomorrow. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We came back after 3 years away. There was a different vibe about the place. The food was as good as before. But this restaurant is doing a great job pairing food and vine! Very good. A small, may be not significant, observation: waiters projected feeling of being unhappy and somewhat rushed us.

It has French, European fusion, vegetarian friendly and gluten free options. A really lovely dinner at one of our favourite restaurans. It has the best selection of desserts I have been offered in a while.

Excellent service, friendly and welcome. Warm and welcoming setting. The chef and the staff as well as the owner all rend to your every need. The food was extremely good. The roasted duck was to the T and the hash-brown with the sweet viniger reduction really finished it off. Well done! My second rates restaurant yet

Perhaps the best restaurant in Durban. Their 5 star service competes with their 5 star food. If you want a special evening, this is definitely the place to choose. They really go the extra mile to ensure your visit is memorable- tell them you're celebrating a special evening, and they'll go an even further mile to ensure it is special.
Prices are a little high, but for good reason: you get what you pay for.
My partner and I hold this bistro in very high regard, and we've never been disappointed!

2nd Review: We go here often so dont bother with reviewing each time, the food is usually quite good. However this last visit was quite bad: the mushroom soup served was nowhere near the advertised one on instagram - taste was ok, appearance left a lot to be desired. A query revealed that the service was busy so they couldnt focus on making my dish look right 🤔.then came the main course: seafood paella was inedible, in-fact made me gag. A crime to relate it to an actual paella. It was promptly sent back and the lamb rump ordered - lamb which was just flat and flabourless, the second main was the braised beef with mash, which was more of a dish I'd expect from a small diner in a rural setting - simple, overcooked, uninspiring - i mean, its a small piece of meat and a dollop of mash and brocolli (sauce and nuts not withstanding), very un-9th Avenue. I dont know if the lead chef is on leave or absent for whatever reason, but like this is unacceptable from a restaurant so highly regarded. I just hope our next visit sees some return to excellence! To be fair, the manager was profusely apologetic and my wife did get a call back the next day to apologise again, which was greatly appreciated and lessened the blow, however this review still goes up, in the hope it would serve to prevent the usual complacency that besets South African restaurants.

1st Review: Good food as always.excellent service

Love going to 9th Ave for a special night out. My favourite is the creamy shell fish orzo, followed by the crispy duck dish. Delish. Can't wait to go back.

Lovely setting, the hostess and waitrons are friendly and professional. If you love wine, you'll love it here. They have a great selection and you can get them by the glass, not just a house wine. Food is pricey, (think Mains from R150) but you won't find food of this calibre or creativity in Durban. A perfect place to go to celebrate an anniversary or just a romantic dinner.

Ordered the pork option. The pork belly was delicious but the fillet was disappointingly bland. The sauce did not add anything in the way of flavour. I didn't enjoy the white bean hummus as it just added to the overall blandness of the meal. The portion was small and not good value for money

If you want the best most reliably excellent steaks than look no further. You literally cannot go wrong with 9th Avenue. All the steaks cooked with passion by the owner and it shows.

Always a favourite! You will never lose when you choose to visit Ninth Ave Bistro. It is a bit pricey, but for good reason! The food is to die for, and consistently impresses and better. They also have a growing list of really great South African craft beers from Durban and the rest of the country. An absolute gem in the city
