Maybe I'm getting old, but this place just doesn't live up to the hype. It's fried chicken folks, it's tasty but it's fried chicken. Go once to say you've gone and don't ever go back. It simply is not worth spending two plus hours in the restaurant for fried chicken. Plus, our waitress forgot our chicken when bringing the food. Uh, what? Go elsewhere, save some time, and enjoy everything else Frankenmuth has to offer.

Their food is fine. It's sourced from Gordon Food Services the waitress told us when we asked. They give you a lot of sides and appetizers. It wasn't "bad" just not the quality or flavor i was hoping for based on the reviews i saw online I would never choose to go back unless it was a free meal. Also you wait a LONG time to get a table!

I came here with one expectation, that Zehnder’s would live up to the reviews it received. When my husband and I arrived the first menu we received did not match the menu posted outside. So for you first time visitors there is a SECOND lunch menu. I expected my meal to be hot when it is served. However, once our food arrived it was cold. I ordered the chicken Parmesan with egg noodles, not only was the cheese stiff but the breaded chicken was soggy. Needless to say after leaving the restaurant I felt nauseous. My husband and I agree that the food we were served on deployment was much better than what we had at Zehnder’s. This will be a first and a last trip here. Can’t remember a meal this bad.

This is a holiday tradition! There is TONS of food so come hungry. The buttered noodles are the best! The sides are my favorite part here. Great for large groups! Make a reservation to get seated faster.

Maybe it was because I remember it with Rose colored glasses, but the fried chicken (that thing everyone goes there for!!) Was pretty average. We went on a busy day, but after an hour of waiting I can honestly say their fried chicken was mediocre at best. That being said, the sausage and sauerkraut was very good, as was many of the side dishes including buttered noodles. Its Frankenmuth so expect high prices, but I was hoping the quality would match a little more to the price.

Great food. We had a strange experience today. Decided to treat ourselves and eat in the main dinning room. Checked in with the front hostess. Then was led through the beautiful (empty) main dinning room, down the back stairway to the basement, through a coat area, and down the hallway. We finally arrived at our back wall table. We quickly changed our minds and ate at the Z-cafe. Same great chicken and fixings. We both ate for the cost of one upstairsor downstairs.

We went here for my husband's birthday dinner. I am not able to eat wheat, so I looked up if they had any gluten-free options. They have a menu online! I got the heritage steak, and it was phenomenal. All the staff and servers are so friendly! Our waitress helped me pick a side dish with no wheat in it (applesauce, oh so cinnamon-y and tasty.) The coleslaw was extremely flavorful, and the cottage cheese and cranberry sauce were delightful. My husband loved his chicken and mashed potatoes as well as the garlic bread with the liver pâté and cheese spread. His birthday sundae was so cute! The ambience of the restaurant is beautiful. We had such a wonderful evening! I would give this place 10 stars!

The food, service, atmosphere! This place has it all. Take a stroll back in time when elegance had character. The attention to detail this place has is just unreal. The food is great and you will never leave there hungery, if you do it's your fault. When done gorging yourself make sure you go downstairs to the bakery to take a look around.

Wonderful period and cultural costumed staff. Very attentive. Fairly broad menu but the big draw is the friend chicken. Oh my. Tastes incredible with no greasiness. Sides are hearty and is just a great place for a home style meal. Can order family style or individual portions.

It's pleasant and a fun experience. You get large portions and many items as part of the "chicken dinner." If you're going to Frankenmuth, you need to go. However, outside of the location and venue, the food itself is just average. KFC chicken is much better and flavorful. Most of the sides are moderately seasoned and just a little plain. Sure, you get large portions and there are ten items on your table to pick from, but the quality of the food itself is just average. Still, there's great service, and it's a fund place to go to when in Frankenmuth.

Always great to get your free birthday dinner! The sides and chicken are always fresh and good. If you dine on Saturday, mid-afternoon, the wait is always less than 15 minutes. Also their onion soup au gratin is well worth the extra $3.50 upgrade over chicken noodle!

For the price, (over $20 per person) we expected a wonderful meal. The portions were generous. We were even allowed to share our "all you can eat" appetizers with with our family and encouraged to take home the leftovers. BUT..No one wanted the leftover food. The chicken was dry and tasteless, the mashed potatoes had to be from a box, the corn seemed old, the stuffing was bland, the noodles were overcooked to mush and definitely not homemade. We commented how KFC would have tasted so much better at 1/4 the price. To be fair, not everything was awful. The cottage cheese and the slaw salad were tasty.
This restaurant can only be successful because of one-time tourists. We will never go back.response / report this review -

Went there for a family gathering. My first time despite visiting Frankenmuth many times. We all had the Sunday all you can eat buffet. The selection of items were pretty standard with meats, salads and side dishes. Server brought drinks, soup, bread and dessert to the table and was attentive and personable. The atmosphere was nice and despite the large crowds fairly quiet. Overall the food was good but nothing stood out as great. The value for your money is questionable unless you plan on stuffing yourself. Otherwise for over $30 a head with gratuity, I could think of better options. Still it was nice to experience it once.

It was okay. Chicken soup reminded me of straight from the can Campbell's soup-- it tasted okay. Food portions are huge, usually. We split it between two people. You have to ask how to do that to get the best value. Otherwise, they let you order the big meal and you do pay more. I liked the Bavarian Inn World famous chicken dinner across the street, as well. We went there last year. I found it was better. We did order the huge non-stop plates of food, and we were very full. Overall both places are fine. The family should like it.
