Great hike. Hike about 1.5 miles to get to a great view of the Carmen's River, at Indian landing. You can see deer tracks in the water if you walk along the grass to the right. Beautiful spot. The welcome center is also great to bring your kids to, and it's free :)

A lovely park reserve and bird sanctuary. Easy walking paths. A great place for boating.. Good information center.

Great place to take kids of all ages. Just make sure you bring plenty of insect repellent. The mosquito are horrible at a certain point in the trail. Other then than that it's awesome. We took our 4 yr son and he had a blast.

Nice and quiet and tucked into the woods. The views along the walking paths next to the water are phenomenal. The fact that parking is free also makes this a wonderful place to spend a nice sunny afternoon

The Refuge has a great new building at the entrance with good facilities, a small museum and gift/snack shop. The associates are pleasant and helpful. There are two main loop Trails both approximately 3+ miles. They are both very well maintained. One is mostly woods with a loop around wetlands. There are five very visible Osprey nests and one American Eagle which is a bit tricky to see. The other loop trail is mostly wetlands with some boardwalks and all that goes along with wetlands. If you enjoy walking and nature this is a terrific area. In fact my wife and I are heading there today to see how the Osprey families are coming along. There is a trail for handicapped use. On our way back to Smithtown we take Route 27 which passes by towns where you can divert for a late lunch.

Great hiking park.Wife gives the bathrooms two thumbs up. There's a new learning Center for the kids.Very interactive.we were told you can see eagles in the park. However we were unable to find them. The paths were well marked and wide. We shall return.

The visitor center is new and impressive. The land around it is sloppy and unkept. The trails were great back in the day. Post Hurricane Sandy, thousands of trees have died. They don't seem to be planting any new trees here.

It's amazing how few people know about this local treasure and what can be found here. Did you know that there's a pair of nesting Bald Eagles here? Stop in and tour the Visitors Center first. There's a really great interactive walk through area that will show you all the types of wildlife you might come across once you're out on the trails. Ask about Ranger programs that might be coming up. Many come here simply to walk or run, but if you're hoping to see wildlife you'll want to walk quietly and keep your conversations as low as possible. Otherwise you'll scare away what you were hoping to see. Don't forget to bring your binoculars. There are two main trails here and you could easily spend 2-3 hours per visit. If you're lucky enough you just might see one or both of the Bald Eagles fly by. Your best opportunity will be down at Indian Landing. The Eagle's nest is directly across on the other side of Carmens River. Be patient, stay quiet, and watch the tree line directly across the river about 5 degrees to the left.
