We have stayed here a few times now. It has been taken over by a larger company, which isn't a bad thing. 4/5 stars due to the constant closure of amenities (i.e. golf area, etc.). Plenty of time has gone by to fix these issues and it does not seem like a priority.
No online booking, so it's a must to go in person. You could end up on hold for long periods of time if you try calling during normal hours.
We do like staying here as it is close to the wineries!response / report this review -

Great little spot nestled just east of Temecula. Very clean bathrooms with nice warm showers. Clean camp sites. Very well taken care of

It's one of the best places to go camping. It has many things for kids to do. It's a family friendly environment. The staff are helpful and friendly as well.

The sites in Oaks are great. Recommend the ones around the perimeter. The ones I the islands in the middle that back up to other sites can be snug. People are mostly nice. The pool is cold when the weather is. Bike trails are first rate.

Needs some upkeep work, but they seem to be tackling projects as they can/as necessity dictates. Great family campground with lots of space for the kiddos to run and play. Some signs as you approach would be nice, rather than just the one right where you need to turn. A little hard to navigate getting in after dark.

Nice RV park out in the sticks, too bad lake access road was closed. In the early hours, you will hear coyotes yelping as a choir, but once the sun is up, cottontail, dove, blue jays are scampering around, looking for food. We even found small hoof prints at our camp site, 3 feet from door. The only problems I encountered were of the human kind: 5 little boys on a golf cart came up to our exclusive camp site and threw sticks & rocks over the cliff and onto another campsite, below, but took off once they realized I was watching them and on my phone. When I called front gate security, they didn't seem to show interest, then a noisy group of drunk adults broke quiet hour rules with a continuous laughing party, well into midnight, I didn't bother calling. Security did a drive-by but didn't enforce quiet hour, either. Still a nice place for families, dogs, bikes & golf carts.

I got to visit site #182 for the weekend. It was a great Halloween event for the family put on by the resort. I wish that there was more light or signs marking where to go. Traveling in the dark is a bit difficult there.

Pretty clean. Kind of run down though. Would be great if they would actually control all of the golf carts racing all over the joint.

I've been coming here for the last three years for high school mountain bike races. A really good location. Fantastic, well laid out trails. Nice amenities if you want to camp. Does not lend itself to tent camping though. Wish they had lower-priced tent only spots without hook ups and with a little more space between you and the next trailer. Exiting after a race can take a while as the single road out gets backed up.

If you need to get away from the typical parking lot camping that is pervasive in CA then Vail Lake is the place for you. It's large, spread out and has every amenity you can image plus a few you can't. And best of all there isn't a freeway or train running through the campground, no airplanes waking you up and rules are limited to a reasonable few.
