I have been here many times ~ no bad experiences, life is not perfect. I come here when we have a serious dilemma, injury or acute illness. I appreciate the fact that you get in your team 1-2 vets and also a few 4yr. Students. We have always left with an accurate diagnosis and a plan, there may need to be a revision but for the most part over the years it is a stay on target plan. I always post the pros and cons, that can be confirmed by past reviews. This visit I am citing, we came in for a luxated lens in a small older dog. I was pleased with the level of care and attention. We formulated a plan with meds and now we are in the waiting period. Our little girl is doing well, seeing improvement ~ not out of the woods. With everything in life we have to consider ~ what is Gods plan. We are happy, the price was affordable, we're in the waiting period. It's all good. Great ophthalmology department, this is the second time we have used the eye doctor. ❤

We took our cat here to be checked on for renal disease. The vet was really informative. He asked about behaviours and broke down what the tests we have had done mean by the numbers. It was pretty pricey, but the information was invaluable. I recommend this place for special needs pets, not just a regular check up as it is pretty pricey, but it is worth it.

The wonderful doctor's and hospital staff were awesome when they treated my Tanman during his cancer. He passed on March 28 2015. They gave it their all to try and get rid of his cancer.

The staff is friendly, caring, and thorough. Took our dog for Opthalmology review. Took time to review everything and discussed the findings and course of treatment so it was clear and understandable. Cleared up issues within a month. Communicated findings with our vet after appointment. Totally impressed and would take my pet there again. For the services rendered they were reasonably priced. Was worth the drive for out of towner.

Don't go here if you don't have to. Maybe they're better during regular hours but their emergency service is terrible. I get that it's weekend/ after hour service but they charge way too much considering their experience level and the fact that not once during my visit did I speak with or even see the "supervising doctor".

For regular check-ups and vaccines, I have always had good experiences with UW Veterinary Care. The receptionists are always kind and courteous, and I have had great experiences with the staff who have looked over my cat for the past two years.

However, I recently had a horrible experience with emergency care for my cat at UW. On July 4th, she began having trouble breathing and was making a gagging/dry heaving noise. I called in to the clinic, and they told me I could bring her in but that there would automatically be a $120-or-so fee due to it being an emergency examination and on a holiday. I said that was fine, and I brought her in. We got to the clinic at 5:30pm and had to wait until at least 6:30 to even be seen by a student veterinarian. After she came in to see us, she was in and out of the room for another hour while we sat and waited. Finally, at about 7:30, she returned and apologized because there were other "emergencies" that had arrived and they did not consider us an "emergency".

After observing my cat and checking her vitals, the vet said they would need to try to do an oral exam to see if anything was blocking her airway (to do so they said they needed to sedate her) and that they needed to run blood work as well. They told me to go home and wait for a call, and that I should expect one by 10pm. I went home and waited, as they asked, for a call. By 10:30, I had not heard anything and decided to call back. The receptionist was very polite, but told me they still had not gotten the blood work or oral exam done because other "emergencies" had come in. I asked how much longer it would be as I had to work in the morning, and the receptionist told me at least a couple more hours and they would call me when I could pick her up. They apologized several times about how long everything was taking, and at no time did they inform me that because of the extra time I would be charged more money for this visit, all because they could not find the time to give my cat the tests she needed done.

Finally, I was called at about 12:30am and told I could pick my cat up at 1:30am. I arrived at the vet by 1:15am so I could take her home earlier if possible, but I still had to wait until 2am to even get my cat back from the veterinarian working with her. At that point, the vet told me she did not know what was wrong with my cat, but prescribed a $90 pain medication and a $180 anti-nausea medication w/o informing me of the expense of either medication (and neither of which turned out to be necessary). When all was said and done, I waited more than 7 hours and had to pay an $800 bill for them to tell me they did not know what was wrong with my cat and could only recommend an additional $2,000 worth of testing.

The next day, I took her to a different vet in my hometown area who told me she likely had just consumed something that was working its way through her digestive system or was possibly causing irritation. He prescribed a cat laxative, gave me soft food to give her, and billed me a much more reasonable $70 (granted, this was not on a holiday). She was better within 2 days.

If you have other options, I would highly recommend taking your small animal elsewhere for emergency services.

Was referred to UW Vet for a slight emergency situation with my Amazon parrot. Everyone I worked with/spoke with was fantastic. I will be using them as my primary avian vet.

This emergency vet is slandering my rescue and making false accusations with 0 evidence. Spent thousands of dollars the last couple days and resulted in death of 3 puppies. They then have nerve to tell owners to sue when I properly vaccinated my puppies. They have no business giving legal advice and apparently are not aware I'm paying for all medical expenses and refunding adoption fee. STAY AWAY

They might have the name of UW backing up, but the UW veterinary is the worst.
The fact that with every appointment you'll see a different person, and the fact you have to explained everything again to the new face is annoying and unprofessional.
I took my dog for a problem in the joint.
The day of the surgery they didn't know what's going on so.
The vet told me were gonna use a camera to look into the joint and will decide what's the best for him.
One type of surgery is that""?
One year later and my dog has still the same problem.

I witnessed things on emergency side I don't feel comfortable sharing.

In my personal opinion it is all about money obscured as caring. They say and do right things up front but as time advances and urgent situations arise service and care slides significantly. No question when you evaluate everything in hindsight unnecessary medical procedures were performed and proper care wasn't administered.

It's very sad even in most critical cases the best thing for your pet is to not go in at all. Don't make same mistake I did. Coping with death of a loved one is difficult enough without all this other nonsense.

No question in my case we enhanced suffering of pet and possibly created new problems. Problems veterinarians were more then aware of both prior and afterward which provided them a handsome monetary award. Condolences were not naturally offered afterward. ER doctors and students were cold and suspicious beginning to end. I would not recommend ER and vets in southern Wisconsin seem in cahoots. They are also very much majority from University of Wisconsin Madison schooling. Particularly from period when UW was accused of unethical testing and treatment of animals publicly (not all). The students didn't seem comfortable and acted like they had something to say but couldn't. Body language and lack of communication also suggested this.

It was this time last year my pet became ill and lost much weight. He was eating litter and accumulated quite a pile in stomach. It wasn't a total obstruction but partial. In my opinion problem could have been resolved with simple antibiotics and a vet squeezing/crushing material through a physical exam. If you don't believe me add some clay litter to a glass of water and try smashing it hours later (AND THIS IS WATER). UW instead performed a surgery for suspicion of cancer and found nothing. They made us believe based on ultrasound it was definitely cancer. They also removed his spleen citing abnormal appearance (which is a total point of view) and later he would need it so this contributed to suffering. I assure you, if something is in the body it is there for a reason despite what these clowns claim. After biopsies no evidence of cancer in suspected regions. The feedback was mixed. At one point someone told me mass they saw on ultrasound was actually enlarged lymph node which is normal if you're very sick. Apparently it was confused as a tumor of some kind. We were also told by ophthalmologist at one point he was blind and eyesight wouldn't return and IT DID. Feedback didn't make sense considering existing evidence. We were told he flatlined a couple times in their care and they had to bring him back. One time in particular he had no evidence of anything unusual that his heart was struggling and he seemed perfectly fine when I exchanged him. Ten minutes later after meeting with doctor I demanded seeing him and he was completely unconscious and totally different then when I had him.

After all mistakes and money donated many of them were quite rude, unsympathetic, and arrogant which didn't make sense considering. They insisted he had a tear in upper intestine and repaired it but a lot of what was performed wasn't well documented and doctors would not follow up after numerous inquiries. Director followed up but only defended their behavior with all the obvious mistakes and was kind of argumentative.

Front desk ladies were kind, professional and sympathetic. Too bad folks in back couldn't be this way! Also, the laboratory who studied biopsies were kind and thorough. Just so I'm clear, my experiences are with emergency side. I have no experience with clinical side. All exams took place in back out of my supervision which I seriously question. This method of treatment and care is very suspicious especially considering past accusations of animal testing and treatment of animals.

Not long after experience a group of individuals went on a video gaming platform I write software for and rubbed it in my face stating personally identifiable things with this case they couldn't know.

Staff was friendly, couldn't seem to get my name or phone number correct. Took several attempts. Was not impressed! Got two slightly differing story's between the day shift vet, and the night shift vet. They do seem to be about they're high doll or toys.Wouldn't even consider lesser expensive approaches. Also examined my dog out of my sight, so I have no clue as to what was done. Several of my questions were never addressed.
