This is a terrific museum. Make sure you go through the museum to learn about Silversides before you self-taught the sub. Fascinating.

Great tour of WWII submarine, museum & old Coast Guard ship! Plan to spend a couple of hours here, at least! We could have spent the better part of a day!

So much fun for a history buff. Guided tour was worth the wait. Our tour was on a weekday at 2 and we had just enough time to see both ships. The people were wonderful and ready to answer any question. The self guided tour of the USCGC MCLANE was fun too so get there early enough to do both.

We looked around the museum a bit before taking a guided tour of the USS Silversides that started at 2pm. It was so exciting and the tour guide, I wish I knew his name, was amazing. He was a lot of fun and clearly passionate about it all. He answered every question our group had and made sure we got as much out of the tour. He was a pro and wrapped up the tour just in time for us to be able to do a full self-guided tour of the USCGC McLane. We never once felt rushed, even when we decided to take one last look in the museum upstairs at the WWII Era comics and Marine Corp Exhibit on the second floor. The Gift Shop was very well stocked and even though I'm from the area I still bought a nice postcard and a puzzle to do with my family.

An interesting and historic trip back in time to U.S.A.'s involvement with WWII. The museum is interesting and comfortable, and the submarine tour is even more interesting, yet uncomfortable. (it's a war submarine, it's not supposed to be comfortable) I've been here multiple times, and always learn something new. Great for school trips, Father's day outings, personal education, or just to see an interesting part of history.

Last tour of the day was earlier than we anticipated so if you want that I'd call and find out when it is. You can explore on your own though which was fun. We had a baby carrier (front carry) and had to watch for no head hitting but otherwise not a problem at all. It was very interesting and clean. Mostly things to read and see but a few hands on things through out for kids. Quite a bit to see. You could stay a few minutes or a few hours. I get motion suck easily and was fine inside; submarine moved minimally, coast Guard boat moved a bit more but we kept moving and I was fine. All in all definitely worth seeing. A piece of history preserved.

We really loved this sub museum! You could tour with a group or walk and read at your own pace. The exhibits were colorful and interesting. Walking through the sub was like stepping back in time! A fun stop for our 4th of July vacation!

We had such a great time here! The staff is so knowledgeable and this is a great place to take anyone to learn about the history of the submarine and world war 2.

Loved this place. It made me cry a couple of times while reading some of the history and listening to the interviews on the big screen TV. My teenagers were touched as well. Going through the submarine was a great learning experience. It ended up being our favorite part of our whole trip Michigan.

A must see for any WWII history buff or mechanical machinery aficionado. The museum is pretty decent, with some notable displays including a working periscope, sectioned torpedoes, and nice wall graphics depicting the events of WWII. The real star is the boat. Just wander around, stare at the machinery and valves, try to figure out what it all does and marvel at the ingenuity of those who designed and operated it. Admire the beautiful polished brass, copper, and stainless parts. Imagine yourself out at sea in this boat with 59 other men for months at a time, enduring depth charges and U-boats, with only good meals to keep your spirits up.

This was my 3rd or 4th visit to the sub. For those that don't know, they offer a program where cub scouts or boy scouts can spend the night on the sub. So much better than just a tour. Sleeping in an enlisted man's bunk or an officer's quarters is a great experience; one most people will never get. I am thankful for the opportunity to sleep on both the USS Silversides as well as the Coastguard Cutter. Two boats with plenty of history defending our country.
