This is one of those places that makes me so happy I work in Boston. Friendly people, cute bookstore, and extremely well presented and delicious food and drink. 🔥 The prices are less than you expect.

We found this place from a Google lunch recommendation and what a great find! You probably wouldn't know the bookshop was also a cafe from just walking past. The cafe is mostly upstairs and we had a great lunch. Staff friendly, service was a bit slow, but it was really busy. The tables and chairs are really jammed together, so not much room, but we were able to leave a stroller downstairs. The food was really delicious. We had to walk about an hour to get here, but we it was worth the effort. On the way out, bought my son a book and it was fun to eat lunch then browse the books.

Came in on a fairly busy night. Sat at the counter and waited for a menu. Finally got a menu, and then was promptly ignored for 20 minutes. Once one of the ladies behind the counter finally noticed me she said "do you want something"
I got up and left.
It's a shame, the menu actually looks pretty good. It's too bad I actually couldn't order anything. I will never be returning to this place again. I plan conferences, and planned one of the largest theology conferences in the country. This place was suggested to me by one of the locals. This place is incredibly overrated. We came to get coffee and something small to eat in the morning. Even though it wasn't busy, service was TERRIBLE. We practically had to beg for refills, constantly flagging down servers. Everyone working there was in a sh**ty mood. The bookstore is fine for what it is. The book selection isn't bad but isn't great. Definitely a store for a general reader. I can't see any reason to come back here. You'd be better off going up the street to Thinking Cup for coffee and food, opening up your laptop, and shopping on Amazon.

I really want to give 5 stars. This place was becoming my go to, but I had a few disappointing take out experiences and I feel like the portions aren't great for the prices on some stuff. Their corned beef hash for breakfast is one of my favorite breakfast options, French dip is solid.
I ordered mac and cheese one time which is listed online as having ham and peas, but it ended up just being noodles and cheese sauce with some ritz crackers crumbled on top. That ends up being kind of a crummy value as a result. If I knew better I would have added some buffalo chicken on the mac and cheese as a result.
I really wish I could give a 4.5, they're rated right currently. This is one of the few places that has sour dough rye, because apparently any bread can be sour dough (mind blown). Definitely worth a try, but they excel at breakfast more than other things and I think you do better if you eat there vs doing take out.response / report this review -

Was here about a month back; ordered the lemon ricotta French toast based on several online reviews. It was delicious! Soft fluffy bread drenched in some berry sauce, and stuffed with lemon ricotta. Every bite was a bite of sugary goodness. Would recommend sharing the dish with a couple friends though!

Great small place! Can't believe I've never been there before. They have a lovely atmosphere and fabulous food. Lots of options. The food came very fast and I enjoyed it a lot. The service was good, nothing to brag about but nothing to be upset about. Went on a Sunday morning before 10 and there was no wait but I bet they have a wait later in the day. Would definitely recommend, can't wait to return again!

Cozy downtown bookstore with a great selection of books. The food is also amazing, beyond what I expected for a bookstore cafe. The trivia nights are really fun.

Good food, awesome spot for vegetarians and breakfast lovers. Really nice smoothie/juice menu too. If you're waiting for a table, it's nice to wander around and find a good book!

Had a great dinner here. The atmosphere is fun, where else can you browse through a great book store and then sit down for a good meal! Great service and decent pricing.

Hippest place in town. Reminds you of why independent book stores are so important, with a great selection of thought-provoking magazines, staff-recommended books, and a restaurant -- with eggs all day (try the frittata)! Poetry slams and book readings at night. If you haven't tried it, stop by. You'll leave feeling a little happier.

Had a mid-morning breakfast on the day of the St. Patrick's Day parade. Surprisingly, it was SUPER fast service even though it was packed on both floors. We sat upstairs and were greeted with the most friendly hostess/waitress.
Food was quickly delivered, hot and super delicious! Had the salmon sandwich and the breakfast Monte Cristo sandwich. We will be back next time we are in Boston!
