Classy place with a very clasic vintage atmosphere. Had a new York strip that was about 1-1/4 thick and was well seasoned, which was nice to see versus thin steaks found elsewhere. Shrimp dinner looked like prawns. Prices could be a little more balanced.
Best steakhouse in the mad city limits. Their beef is consistently cooked to perfection with the best charred crust coating the outside. One of the few places in town to get snails, rabbit and venison on the every day menu. The drinks are stiff and the ambiance is dark and inviting.
Didn't get a chance to order anything. There were five of us, and the waitress never bothered to stop at our table. I work in retail, so I understand that things get crazy and that they were probably understaffed. No one ever even addressed our table. A simple, "We'll be right with you!" would have made a world of difference. We felt unwelcome, got ignored for 20 minutes, and then left.
Had both NY strip and house bone in cuts. Can't go wrong. Would recommend. Not a place for a quiet conversation, but let's be honest here. No one comes here to talk. They are here to put delicious meat in their mouths are bask in glorious steak eatery. You can talk in here, but you gotta project a little.
This was hands down one of the best steaks I've ever had and an amazing, intimate dining experience. With all the hallmarks of a great wisconsin supper club, a really solid old fashioned, and a best in class prime rib. The service was frequent and top notch. Try and book a reservation though. It's worth it!
My first restaurant in Madison. Very good. Bar staff was professional, aware and courteous. I highly recommend.
Looking for an established steakhouse? Tornado Steak House was a prime choice for us. Though we did not make reservations, my wife and I found seating in the bar area immediately around a small round table and lighting that helped make it still feel private. We ordered the Ribeye and received it to the doneness ordered. Thick, with great flavor and sear. If you are a party more than two, make sure to place reservations in advance of your visit.
Tonight was my fourth time at Tornado, and it was probably the worst experience. The service was great, soup and bread was awesome as usual, but my steak (which I ordered medium) came out rare. The food always tastes great, but the cooking time was definitely off.
Great service and delicious food. I had the Walleye and my wife had the New York strip. Both were excellent.
I enjoyed my evening here very much. The steak was fantastic. They had some very nice cocktails. I would go again.
'The' definition of a classic American steakhouse, and then some. Perfect combination of ambiance, service, and great good coupled with a well thought out and extensive drink/wine list. A must in Madison.
Always a great experience here. The meat is great the price is right and the servers can be better
From the odd front door to the awesome retro décor I love the bar. We've been there twice now and really love it. Great service, great food. and drinks are really good. I recommend a Makers old fashioned.
Quality service. Great food by candle light. Cozy n perfect for date night gents! 70's type setting. Classy place to take the ladies to make her feel loved!
Terrific all around supper club experience. Start with the This is not an Old Fashioned from cocktail menu while you munch on their version of a relish tray in a pint glass and fresh baked breads. Order some cocktail shrimp, escargot, frog legs or oysters to start. Then and iceberg wedge or Cesar salad unless soup is your thing then it's baked French onion all the way. There are some great specials to chose from, especially on Friday and Saturday nights, but if it's your first visit you gotta go for one of the fillets. Personally I recommend the bone-in with the side, paired with a Cabernet. I wish I could recommend the desserts, but I never have any room left in my satiated belly.
