This zoo is consistently rated as one of the best in America for good reason. The staff are friendly, accommodating, knowledgeable, and eager to please. The epitome of professional. The site itself is not overwhelming, as you can visit every exhibit in a short day, easily. Parking isn't a nightmare that is typical of most zoos.
This is a great zoo! Some areas are being renovated during the slower months but that just shows me things are being maintained. The Nature's Neighborhood is a must go for children and toddlers! Animals seem happy and I have seen animals playing almost every time I go through the zoo! They always seem to have baby animals in the enclosures also. We drive over an hour to go and it is worth it every time.
Went for the luminous lights and was very happy with my experience. The light displays were very beautiful. I was pleasantly surprised that there was alcohol served during the event that you could walk around with. To top off my visit I was able to see the new snow leopard cubs be fed, that was an amazing experience, they were so cute!!! Definitely going for the Christmas lights soon.
Went for the lights before Christmas display and was not disappointed! We arrived early enough to see some of the animals still on display, but when the sun set and the lights went on it was awesome. All of the trees were decorated in LED lights. There were paths that were lighted as well, one in particular ended at a huge pine tree that was gorgeous with multi color lights. Every ten minutes there was a Christmas themed show projected on one of the building's. In another part of the park the trees were decorated with multi color LED lights that were set to music, totally mesmerizing watching the display. Also enjoyed the new aquarium, it was small but well done. Absolutely recommend going to the Toledo Zoo for this display!!!
Especially loved the aquarium and the aviary. It was in November and just before Christmas lights, so less crowded but many things not open (no train, outdoor adventure, splash pad) and some animals not out (like elephants) but overall an awesome experience. Would like to come again in warmer weather. Especially enjoyed the aquarium and aviary. A very spiritual experience to watch the fish swimming with "Oh Holy Night"playing in the background. Like watching a numinous ballet. 3 adults, a 5 yr old and 2 yr old plus parking cost $86 entry fee. Well worth it.
Lots of animals (including babies, which were adorable!) And many that I don't see often (cheetahs, grey wolves, etc). Lots of volunteers to tell you about the animals and fun events going on. We went when the fall lanterns were set up and they were absolutely gorgeous, even though it was daytime! Only complaint was that on a weekday when school is in session many of the fun extras are closed because they don't have students around to work them. The giraffe feeding, aerial adventure course, train rides, etc were all closed due to lack of staff on a Monday.
One of my favorite local Zoo's to attend. Very clean and loaded with friendly knowledgeable staff. My kids also love it here. There are a good variety of animals to see (and they seem to be more active than at other facilities I have been to). Quite a few food options too if you decide you want to get a bite to eat while you're there.
The Toledo Zoo is a great zoo. It is slightly smaller than the Detroit Zoo but the attractions are equally great the price is slightly high for an adult but if you had a membership or some other offering it should reduce that price. The zoo also has a outdoor clamshell Auditorium for special events and have some night time events like the luminary. All in all it's a very nice Zoo to visit you could probably see the entire zoo and all exhibits in under 3 hours. Check their online calendar of events prior to going for special exhibits. The Toledo Zoo's great ape exhibit is remarkable.
There was a decent amount of construction taking place but we still loved it and had a great time! We are looking forward to coming back next year to see all of the improvements made! We loved the easily viewing of the animals for our son in his stroller! Also recommend good walking shoes as there is quite a bit of walking with the zoo being in two parts!
This is our first year purchasing a membership and I feel strongly that we got the most out of it. It alleviates the financial strain of going to the zoo multiple times in a year and fairly quickly paid for itself. However if it were to be even better yet the membership would include some experiences within the zoo - such as feeding the Giraffes at tower ridge or the train ride/carousel. Even if it were only valid on off days or something as we love to participate but because we are members we often don't carry excess cash to participate in these activities and they are a bit difficult to participate in more than once as they are fairly expensive when considering multiple trips. We absolutely love to come on the slow week days in which the animals are almost always out playing and look forward to seeing the lights this fall and winter.
Not big on animals in cages but they have been consistently creating bigger enclosures for the animals. They seem to do a good job of entertaining them and providing for them. It has good parking and usually a pretty nice day.
It's not the San Diego Zoo, but it's still pretty dang good. I was very pleasantly surprised. The new aquarium is amazing!!! They have most of the typical animals you would want to see at the zoo... Giraffes, elephants, bears, hippos, etc. This is a great summer activity if you have small kids.
The zoo itself has a great variety of animals to see. The gardens are gorgeous. However, it seemed a lot of things were closed and quite a few animals were "off exhibit". The museum, the aviary, the conservatory, Africa exhibits were all closed - just to name a few. The aquarium is fantastic, and there is a lot of interactive options for kids.
The food is extremely expensive and rather terrible. Not a lot of gluten free options, and very long wait at the grill.
Overall, I'd go again, but with my own lunch and I'd make sure more exhibits were open.
An amazing zoo that beats any expectations for something this size. Wonderful collection with some great recently updated exhibits, including the aquarium and the African section. The exhibits are exceptionally well designed for visibility of the animals compared with other zoos. On the downside, the food options are pretty bad, and admission and parking prices are a little steep.
Great zoo to check out! Easy to see why it's always one of the top, if not the top zoo in the nation. The Lights before Christmas are always great to check out, too! If you are just visiting in the area or are going to be close, it is well worth checking out. I have always lived here so I have kind of taken it for granted but when friends from out of town come in, the comment on how awesome it is compared to the zoo by them.
