Great food in the middle of balboa park. Awesome views if you sit outside, and service is usually on point. Only recommendation is to go when it's not a holiday, or super packed. Last time we went it took a while to get service. Other than that it's a great place to eat. The food is very good, and prices are fair for what you get.
Fifth visit to The Padro and I was a little disappointed at the service. Food is always good, excellent atmosphere, but our server's mind was like a thousand miles away from her job.
I don't need to mention her name here, but she didn't give us options on our side's, she just assumed we wanted "chili beans", she didn't refill our cups with water, she didn't come around to check on us until she dropped the check on us.
The place is awesome, but things like that can ruin your day.
The food is outstanding, and that really doesn't do it justice. The service is impeccable, our server, Karen, has gone out of her way to take care of everything. We eat here as often as possible. Their appetizer, hummus and cheese crispy tortilla chips is amazing. Eat here, you'll always come back! Outdoor dining is great on sunny days. Why eat indoors when you have that beautiful SD sunshine. The garden just adds to the atmosphere. We NEVER miss a meal there when in San Diego.
Popped in here during restaurant week. The cocktails were sub-par at best. Short rib was very average in flavor. The pasta dish was decent but over cooked.. too soft. Service was great. I did expect better food though.
We popped in with the kids near closing time. Service for our family was great and our waiter gave us lots of interesting historical information about the area and things to do around town.
The food was decent, but the real draw of this place is the atmosphere. It's part of a historic building in Balboa Park and its outdoor seating overlooks the grounds. It was a beautiful and unique place to enjoy a meal.
If going with children, they have a kids menu, but it's a 3 course extravaganza. Frankly, the kids meals were better than our entrees.

Excellent Service. Delicious and Good Variety of Food. Unusual Art Displayed. Special (to me: magical) Ambience. Indoor and Outdoor Dining. Beautiful Plants EVERYwhere. Highly recommend.
I'm going to preface this by stating that I rarely write reviews for anywhere I go unless it was truly noteworthy (for better or for worse). I stopped by here for lunch after visiting the art museum. Now I'm not one to normally complain, but I was waiting for 15 minutes in a relatively empty restaurant with several waiters before anyone finally approached me and asked if I wanted something to drink. You can imagine how annoying it would be to be sitting down watching many waiters walking by you for literally 15 minutes and never getting approached. Now the wait alone is nothing that would make me write a bad review, but there was something else I ordered the chicken tortilla soup as an appetizer and was many bites in when all of a sudden I lift up my next spoonful and there is a 3 inch long wire (looked like an unfolded paperclip) on my spoon. Needless to say this was really gross to realize that I was eating the soup with this hidden inside the entire time and then almost eating it. Fortunately, the manager came over and apologized and covered the meal, but it still really can't make up for such a crappy experience. All I was looking for was a quick lunch, and I ended up waiting and waiting and then being served metal.
Great atmosphere and solid service. Food is decently priced but somewhat bland. Risotto and fish tacos need bolder flavors. Tortilla soup and chicken chopped salad were solid. Good for a quick bite and drink before touring Balboa Park.
The Prado is a great part of Balboa park to explore. I've been here during the morning on my own, and in the evening as part of a group event. Both times have been excellent, and there are quite a few options for food and museums. Of course everything is expensive here, but that's because it's a tourist area with various attractions. Definitely worth a visit for tourists and locals alike!
Had a great experience. Went here for an anniversary. They had a special for two that came with food and a bottle of wine. The waitress was super attentive and made us feel extremely welcomed. She also recommended a few areas to visit in the park and some of the history behind them. On and all a great experience. Will definitely be back.
Service
Been here a couple of times at The Prado. Service is always great with very attentive and charming waiters and waitresses.
Food
The only food item that stood out to me was the spicy calamari fries. They are no spicy though, more sweet than anything. I usually do not get along with spicy so if I say it's not spicy it really isn't.
Parking
There's a valet right outside the restaurant if you're not in the mood to find parking. Parking lots can be found throughout the park and is a short walk to the restaurant. Parking can be hard to find on busy days like the weekend.
Extras
It's a nice place to have dinner after spending some time around the park. Go recharge yourself after catching your Pokemons =). If you're trying to save some money go get a gift card from Costco.
Prado's is located in a gorgeous building in beautiful Balboa Park. We had reservations, so we didn't have to wait. However, the surroundings are so impressive that you would even enjoy waiting for a table. The atmosphere of the restaurant is eclectic Spanish decor. Servers are excellent as is the food. Everything we ordered was prepared exceptionally and presented beautifully
