Horrible service. Waited 2 plus hours for food at dinner service. Had to keep getting our own drinks. They forgot our breakfast in bed, but didn't forget to get my money for it. It was my fault because the manager didnt put the order in. No one ever mans the front desk. Also, police were called by other customers, I promise you can't make this stuff up.

Our overnight stay included a couples afternoon in the castle and it was wonderful! We absolutely enjoyed the history that came with a tour, relished in the massage that included champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries, sipped our way through some amazing wine selections during the tasting, and savored a high end dinner.

The only downfall was that the grounds looked pretty unkempt. I assume they were doing some fall cleanup. And also the hot tub before our massage was not ready/hot enough. Luckily we stayed and enjoyed the hot tub after dinner.

Overall a lovely stay and felt amazing to wake up in a castle on my birthday.

My friend came into town all the way from the other side of the country and we thought a fun event would be to visit the castle and get a tour. We both love architecture and old buildings. She made the reservation online, a week prior and we got a call about an hour before the tour telling us that they didn't do tours at 3pm. I live an hour away, so we were already on our way. They had a week to inform us that we wouldn't be able to tour and a week to rectify the situation so that we could go on a tour at the proper time. The woman who left a voicemail asked us to call back and we did several times and no one answered the phone.

We decided to go anyway as the building is so beautiful we wanted to see it. When we went, we told them we wanted a refund. Since no one was answering the phone, we weren't even sure if we would be able to get a refund, they gave us the run around and told us we could join the wine tasting. We never expressed interest in the wine tasting, so I don't understand why they would offer that. I wasn't sure if it was an offering in that we would get it for free or have to pay for it. It was very weird.

They finally let us look around which was definitely worth it, as it's such a beautiful old mansion, which is why I can't give this review one star. Then we went back downstairs and told them we did want a refund due to us never going on the tour. The girl at the desk had to call over the manager who apparently gave us the refund but didn't bother to tell us until we asked about it. Overall it was a weird experience that made me wonder how they are able to continue this business with so many bad reviews. I would recommend going and seeing it for yourself, but I wouldn't trust them to do right by you.

Stayed here Sept 4-6 2020. We stay here at least once a year. Did the murder mystery dinner it was great, so much fun. All the staff were very nice and helpful. Had dinner the 2nd night it was fabulous as usual. Our waitress was a sweetheart. Matt our bartender was great as always. Love this place and recommend it. Its not as pricey as y I u hear from some. Remember your not staying at the hotel 8. If you piss the goasts off, they might screw with you, so don't do it. Have fun its beautiful ❤

This is our second time to stay here and things did not go as smooth as the first time. The bartender needs to be more aware of his guests. He attended to less important things for over 30 minutes before serving the 6 people at the bar. Apparently, this is the way he operates because he was like that on our first stay.
We couldn't get appetizers before dinner.

My now wife and I found Henderson Castle while looking for venues to get married. The only issue was that we lived 10 hours away. Francois and his staff worked with us and we ended up renting the entire castle for our wedding party and close family for the entire weekend. It was a fun and awesome experience. The view is pretty, the castle is impressively decorated, the staff was attentive and performed wonderfully, and the food was incredible. I really mean that about the food- excellent French cuisine. The rooms are also themed and memorable. Each room has a "thing" about it to make it unique. The sauna and rooftop hot tub are pleasant surprises, as well.

Henderson Castle is worth it. Stay a night there and you will carry the experience with you always.

The Henderson Castle is a beautiful location just off of downtown Kalamazoo, MI. It is situated on a hill with wonderful views of their vineyard and garden. My wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon and we stayed in a different themed room each night. The Vineyard View room, the French room and the Tibetan room. Each room had it's own theme with unique furniture. The dining room and wine tasting room were exquisite. We had a delicious dinner in their famous restaurant where we were the only two eating that evening. Dinner was amazing, I've never learned more about steak in my entire life but it was cool to learn the differences in aging the meat.

Of course the staff was super friendly and extremely accommodating to all of our needs. We sampled the wines at the tasting room and were delighted at the variety and flavor. They have the only wine cave in Michigan to keep the bottles at the correct constant temperature for proper maturation and formation.

The lobby of the castle is amazing with an open staircase. Stained glass windows all around with access to a rooftop observation deck and hot tub.

All in all it was a short stay but we would definitely go back to try out the other rooms, taste some more wine and eat some delicious cuisine in the dining room.

The wife & I stayed here in 2015 on our anniversary; it was a surprise for her. We are very frugal folks that will spend on things we thoroughly enjoy. The 1st evening, we had dinner & our oldest son & his wife joined us. We all were given a tour of the Inn. Long story short, it takes a lot to impress old folks & we as well as our son & his wife, were not only impressed, but just thoroughly happy. Thank you for the memories, at our age, they are very important. God Bless & Merry Christmas to all!

Last year my husband and I went to Henderson castle for the couple's massage and hot tub. We enjoyed it so much we not only did the couple's massage and hot tub, we did the castle tour, high tea, dinner at the H Prime Chophouse and we spent the night just this past November. The service was personable, prompt without being pushy. Our waitress Ivy and bartender Matt told us stories about the castle. The food was delicious with a nice use of herbs for taste. The steak was cooked to order and the lobster bisque was to die for. We are planning on returning next year! Thank you Henderson castle staff for a wonderful time!

Henderson Castle was an awesome experience. The castle had so many areas to explore and enjoy. The food was AMAZING. We made friends and enjoyed the hot tub on the roof. We can not to stay here again. Everyone made us feel at home and treated us to the best experience you could have here. Also, the massages were to die for. There is nothing to change herefrom their smiles to the diningit was a dream.

We came here for our honeymoon for 4 days. The castle is just so gorgeous love the old world fashion. It is a very old castle so its not your "brand new Hilton" type of place. Everyone treated us very kind and respectful, except for the gentlemen checking us out. Very rude inconsiderate and just not friendly at all. Definitely does not fit into the castles persona. The whole reason we came back was of how wonderful we treated on our first visit. Kind respectful customer service is everything. One bad seed will ruin the whole garden.

I attended a wedding shower there recently. I traveled more than 2 hours to get there. The surroundings are nice. I can appreciate the historic charm of the building and grounds. I think if the operational /management/communication skills were better my experience could have been much nicer.

Example: there is only one restroom on the main check in floor which was closed forcing older patrons to go to basement up & down flights of stairs to the other. Apparently it is locked when the bar isn't staffed ( you go thru bar area to get to main floor . We were served a "high tea". Beware, high tea portions are just a tasting, and in no way should be construed to be a adequate lunch although the food tasted good, we went to a restaurant to eat after it was over! These reasons coupled with slow service is why I proably wouldn't go out of my way to visit again.

Absolutely awesome! Beautiful, amazing, and very haunted!!! We stayed in the Dutch room on the second floor, all evening you could hear things going on, on the third floor even though no one was staying up there! When I would go up to check it out, all would be very quiet and still. Loved it, going back soon and taking my grand kids, they are adventurous and I know they will love it. Side note, after 9:00 pm all staff goes home for the night. So if you happen to be the only guests like us, your all alone in Henderson Castle. BIG FUN!

Attended a bridal shower. The food was awful, and the service was poor. Called to check on accessibility. No one answered the phone, but my call was placed on hold for over 10 minutes. I hung up and called back twice and was automatically placed on hold each time. Not very accessible for the physically disabled. The ceiling leaked water all over the guests.

We booked the Vineyard view room but we're upgraded to the Italian room upon arrival due to a missing key for our room-- but it worked in our favor as the Italian room was georgous! The king sized bed was very comfortable. The air conditioning unit wasn't very strong but we found a box fan in the room that made it very comfortable. The inn itself is very neat to walk around, we were able to poke our head in most of the other rooms as others hadn't yet checked in. They all hard their own unique charm which makes the castle a fun experience. It was no problem getting an Uber to and from downtown and only a short distance away. We did not have a chance to eat at the inn but we did grab a drink at the bar which was reasonably priced and a great bartender! I wish we could've spent more time walking around the grounds or a dip in the rooftop hot tub. The staff was all pleasant and accommodating and showed us to our room and gave a brief history of its origin. Would definitely recommend for a romantic night away!

Our experienced was mixed. The gardens and grounds were beautiful, the breakfast was good and was very fresh. The Castle had some beautiful details, like ornate woodwork and leaded glass windows. Our room was simple but cute and generally clean.
However, when my boyfriend booked the room, the confirmation said we'd be in the Tibetan room at the Castle. When we checked in, we were informed we'd be in a different room at the guesthouse across the street (though the nightly rate was the same). We did not read reviews of the Castle beforehand – had we, we would've learned that this seems to happen regularly and without any recourse. Reviews of the Castle seemed pretty mixed and my boyfriend and I wonder if this may be due to the different experiences of guests staying in the main castle building vs. the guesthouse.
The castle is on a big steep hill the guesthouse is down the hill, across the street in a residential neighborhood. The staff repeatedly reassured us that we would have access to all the same amenities as guests in the main building. It was beautiful outdoors during our stay so the walk wasn't bad and we were able to take a short cut climbing up the hill rather than walking around to the road, but this wasn't what we were expecting and it would've been an unpleasant walk if it had been cold or rainy out and unlike the guests staying in the Castle, we couldn't saunter down to breakfast in our PJs. Parking at the guesthouse is also very limited and parking on the street is prohibited overnight. The guesthouse is a historic house but it seemed a bit run down (especially the kitchen) and was significantly less impressive and less fancy than the castle.
Also - the website says that every room has free wifi, however, it seemed that only rooms in the Castle had free wifi, not the guesthouse. I called the front desk for help accessing the internet from our room - the staff person I spoke to provided the wifi password but when I asked which network guests could use, I was told it should have Henderson or Henderson castle in the name. No such network was available from our room. We looked around the house but couldn't find a router. When we went to breakfast the next morning, we were able to access the wifi from the main house but every room did NOT include free wifi as their website suggests.
If you're interested in booking - I would suggest calling the castle directly and specifically requesting a room in the main Castle building. In general, this place seems overpriced and mismanaged and I couldn’t recommend it.

Definitely not worth the money for a stay, hotel is a small, unkept small house that is a few blocks from the actual castle. And there is no connection between the hotel and the actual castle. Awful experience all the way around.
Just go for a castle tour if you must waste money at this venue

Henderson Castle is a once in a lifetime experience! We have stayed for anniversaries had dinners and breakfasts at the castle! It is one of our favorite places! Even though its in the heart of Kalamazoo, Francois and his staff make you feel like you are on a European getaway!

Such a unique inn, outside and in. So much fun exploring the rooms. Stayed in the tibetan room, with painted ceiling and led lights. Antique fixtures. Hope they are able to raise the money for repairs and new roof to keep it running, as their really isn't locations like this in Michigan left. Beautiful!
