I might be overeating it since it's the only Newport mansion I toured, but the house was amazing every step of the way. They have an audio tour that is included with the price of admission and has a family version that my four year old loved. Highly recommended for anyone in the area

A wonderful history of the Vanderbilt home, rebuilt after a fire, and filled with French opulance. An easy walking tour through the house highlights the architectural quirks and blends of different cultural aesthetics; French, Roman, Italian. Going in November you see the house decorated for the holidays complete with train set on the upstairs patio. A nice simple tour with audio headsets allow you to go at a steady pace.

Beautiful mansion. But it isn't the Louvre,although a lot of French architecture. Amazing to know that private citizens can afford such opulence. Overpriced tickets, I think - $24. Under the breakers, is a separate tour to see how the house was kept functional and I think costs an additional$20. Great walk pathway outside the mansion on the edge of cliffs with ocean waves breaking underneath.
4 stars because of price. The Louvre in Paris is $17

Largest and most impressive of the Newport Mansions. It does, however, tend to attract the most people. Definitely worth a visit though. They also offer an underground/basement tour for an extra cost, but I believe that is a limited time deal.

The Breakers is the most grand and majestic of all the Newport homes. It is located on the water with beautiful views. If you visit just one home in Newport, I would recommend that you visit this one. It was built during the gilded age by the Vanderbilts. They have easy and convenient parking. They provide you with an easy-to-use tablet and audio tour, which allows you to walk at your own pace. It takes about 60-90 minutes to cover the entire home.

Spectacular! I was skeptical about visiting these mansions. But now I realize I live in a tiny house compared to these. It's a little surreal that these were homes. Definitely worth paying to see.

So glad to be spending time with my loving mother and father. I missed them so much! This Rhode Island is beautiful. I love the New England weather and all the beautiful memories of my childhood. My in laws are also just amazing people. Pictures to come!

This house is beautiful and huge with some gorgeous grounds - definitely worth a visit. Nice parking area across from the house makes it easy to access, but it does get full when busy. Plenty of walking and steps, so come prepared. The audio tours are great, the preservation society had done a great job with it and provides it in an app for your phone as well. Can get crowded when busy, but still manageable to get through. Grounds were worthy of spending some relaxing time. A must visit in the area.

Historically enlighteningto the point that feels like time traveling. If you want to be immersed into the gilded age here's your chance! Having an obsession for years with that time period and being a huge fan of The Age of Innocence, since my teenage years, that place and the rest of mansions transport you in time or a movie setting!

I liked that you can take the tour at your own pace with the audio tour system. Also even though it is not advertised you can buy a ticket just to The Breakers instead of a multi-house ticket. A bit less expensive if you are just doing the Breakers and cliff walk.

We took the new "Beneath the Breakers" tour, which is new since January and is not yet well-known. It was fascinating! We learned a lot of the engineering that went into the house, as well as the fear that drove Mr. Vanderbilt to have the house constructed as it was. Because there were no other guests on the tour, we were able to have a nice conversation with our tour guide, Kathy. She stuck to her script very professionally, but because it was essentially a private tour, it was very relaxed and informal. This tour isn't for everyone. You don't see any of the interior of the house. If you're interested in engineering or in understanding some of the mechanics behind the house, take the tour. We very much enjoyed it.

Incredible! So amazing to go see. It was absolutely beautiful and the audio tour was very in depth! I can't wait to go back and of the Newport Mansions. The Breakers also had a special underground tour which showed you how the mansion ran which was extra but worth it!

One of the greatest Newport mansions (AKA summer cottages)owned by descends of Cornelius Vanderbilt, sometimes referred to as Commodore Vanderbilt. We visited it many times - during spring, summer, fall and winter. The Breakers look stunning during holiday season with Christmas decorations. Concerts are also be here during holidays, and highly recommend them. A great place to learn about American history.
