I liked the nostalgia of the parlor!!! The wait staff, especially Samantha, was extremely efficient and very nice!!! The food was absolutely delicious and the cocktails were on point!!!

I've visited this place numerous times in the last year with family in tow but after tonight I'll never go back. Two hours for food that was so bad we couldn't finish it. Bill was wrong and then when I called to discuss it with the manager the phone isn't answered. That's just rude.

Tonight we brought people with us. We were there so long the little one feel asleep on the chair.

Ordered Red Chili..Was expecting chili with ground beef but was more big brisket chunks in a chili sauce. Wasn't bad just wasn't what i expected. Overall the visit was good.

After getting soaked and freezing cold on the rainy Halloween evening, we were in the mood for some hot food, decided to give this place a try and call in an order.

Since their website was down, the girlfriend called them up, let them know the site was down, and dared to ask what types of chili they had. The person she spoke with told her “we’re really busy, figure out what you want and call back,” and then they just hung up on her. I called back and asked to speak to the manager. Turns out it was the manager himself who hung up on her.

So here we are. He could have taken the extra 5 seconds to treat a customer with some respect, perhaps by saying “I’m sorry but we’re really busy, these are our top 3 choices, would you mind terribly if I put you on hold for a minute while you decide?”
Instead, he chose to be a rude prick. So here you are, enjoy the 1-star review on Google, Yelp, and wherever else I can post it. I’ll never eat there and will discourage anyone I know from doing so. I suppose it’s no great loss, since from reading the rest of the reviews on here it seems you’ll find better chili at Wendy’s.

I have had chili from coast to coast like butter and toastand this place has the best chili I have ever had. The XX chili has just the right amount of flavor to heat with generously big pieces of tender steak. Our waitress was very pleasant and attentive. I will definitely be back.

Here in Austin for our first time to spend time with our grandson who wanted Chili for lunch. We were promptly seated and given our menus and drink order. They filled our varied drinks often and our food was excellent. I ordered beef chicken fajita salad and a chili. Grandson ordered chili baked potato and a bowl of chili husband ordered a burger and a chili. Everything was great. I visited the ladies room it was pretty bad which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. Highly recommend the food and the service was great.

There are no doors on the women's bathroom stalls. There is just a curtain that doesn't even cover the entire toilet. Maybe the restaurant thinks that's cute, but I found it weird and creepy. Also, our waitress seemed to have something personal against us and the service was really slow. It was like this restaurant tried so hard to be hipster, that they decided having dirty bathrooms and tables was worth it. I wanted to like this place because I like supporting local businesses, but there just wasn't anything redeemable about this place.

The chili was okay and the atmosphere is classic dive bar but the service is what really did it for me. Our server really should not be a server. She seemed less then pleased that we weren't ready to order when we walked in even though we had never been there before. She seemed annoyed that we had questions about their chili and menu options. I just felt really awkward asking for anything and wished it was acceptable to get it myself. We got the spicy chili without a single refill, not one. Our servers name was Jenn according to the check.. I can't speak for the rest of the staff.

Been here a a few times and the food is always consistent and good. It's a great place to have a beer and watch baseball. However, this last visit was disappointing. Our waitress seemed like she didn't want to be there at all; she was pushy, short with us, seemed only to be interested in us for the tip (which made it an overall unpleasant experience). With that said, I understand everyone has bad days; I'll return and hopefully my next visit will be a more enjoyable one.

The Texas Chili Parlor is an institution. I have eaten there for more than twenty years. There are tangible points I could make about it serving the most authentic Texas chili, or some of the best guacamole, but what is really important is the atmosphere. People are themselves there. No phonies, no wanna be's. You go there to be with friends, to have a good time in a relaxed environment, free of all the shallowness that seems to be overwhelming Austin.

The chili that it's supposed to be known for is bland, cold and the meat is dry. It's pricey too for what you get. The chips offered as a side are dumped straight from an off-brand ruffles bag. I imagine you go here for the bar and bar-like atmosphere rather than the food.

Always a favorite and a must when I come into town. Been coming here every summer vacation since I was knee high and now I bring my kiddos there. Last summer we came 3 times in a week.

I wonder if Jim Sander (review posted one month before mine) had the same waitress that we did! I didn't know her name was Jenn until she brought the check!
She was short, unfriendly, and made me question why she is even a waitress. My son, who drinks a lot of lemonade, felt slighted because the woman acted like refilling his drink was such a chore because he was drinking them so fast and she couldn't keep up. She only got a tip because of who I am, not because of what she did. I would've left zero tip, but she had her okay moments. Once she warmed up, she kept our drinks coming and gave me and my son drinks to go.
The food was okay. The place is Texas Chili Parlor, but everything was decent except their chili!!! The meat was tough and chunky with zero flavor. My friend said "I can buy myself a can of Wolf and be better off." The gumbo, per my son, was good. I had a burger with potato salad, good. Chips, salsa, guacamole, and queso were good.
Will I go back? No.
