As someone else said, consistently reliable comfort food. No frills, no weird recipes, just classic and simple food that’s always good. The staff is the right amount of calm and casual yet professional and good at what they do. This is the kind of place to bring out of town friends for a taste of Pittsburgh.
The Kelly burger was the best burger I have had in a long, long time!! Beef ground on the premises fresh. Wood-fired grill. Everything was excellent from the to the Swiss cheese to the grilled shrooms and onions. The home fries were very good but I would still like to have french fries. The coleslaw was very good! I would definitely eat here again.
Let me start off by saying that when it comes to food-Tessaro's is hands down a 5 star restaurant. They literally have the BEST burgers in the city and I once considered Tessaro's to be one of my top ten places to go in the city. One of the most comfortable and welcoming atmospheres. That was until I visited with my son and realized that the staff is not welcoming whatsoever to babies. Tessaro's is absolutely not a family friendly restaurant and now that I have a child that means a lot to me.
I visited a few weeks ago and am just getting around to writing this review. When we arrived, Tessaro's was nearly empty. It was a weekday in the afternoon -past the lunch rush and well before the dinner rush or bar crowd would arrive. I was holding my son -who is clearly under one year old. Anyone with half a brain can see that he is a little baby who would need a high chair. Nowadays in 2017 I thought every restaurant was ADA compliant for handicapped customers and I also thought that every restaurant offered high chairs for little ones. Most restaurants are frequented by families at some point and a family with children tends to spend much more than an individual or just a couple. As a business owner I would imagine you would want to attract a variety of customers -especially in a family friendly neighborhood like Bloomfield.
The older woman who always sits in the back corner and is, I'm assuming, the owner sat us down with no acknowledgement of my son. At our table I asked for a high chair. The woman scoffed at me and said, "We don't have high chairs". So you let me walk all the way through the restaurant with a baby in my arms and then rudely tell me you don't offer high chairs. So I left my baby with his grandmother, walked outside and down the street to the parking lot, retrieved my stroller and then went back.
What upset me was the fact that she ignored my son and didn't inform me of the fact that they don't have high chairs until we were sitting down. Why didn't she say that when we were standing in the doorway and she greeted us.
Once before a few months back I visited Tessaro's with my husband and son. My son was much younger so he was in a carry along seat. We were seated and my son slept the whole time. However, I noticed several glances from employees and the owner lady that suggested they are not particularly fond of babies in Tessaro's. When my husband and I were getting up to leave an employee commented "he didn't even make noise". Like it was such a relief that I kept my baby quiet. I fluffed this first instance off, but now that I visited Tessaro's a second time and received the same discrimination I will not be going back.
People can be discriminated against for any reason and as a new mother I learned that families with small children is a group that is not welcome everywhere. I only want to spend my hard earned money at an establishment that welcomes families with children and sees the value in every paying customer no matter how small.
Good food made well. Best burger in town made on a wood fired grill. The classic touches make Tessaro's a perfect place to take folks who might aren't won over by trendy stuff. (I went there with some aunts pushing ninety and they loved it!)
The grilled broccoli is the best! They could give me a plate of that and I would be happy! Burgers are great!
Burgers were fantastic. Service was excellent and timely. We will definitely be back!
Finally made it here! Won't be back again. The service was nice and attentive. The food was below average, including a salad that was 80% wilted iceberg lettuce. The Cajun burger meat was good, but there was no flavor at all. My wife ordered a salmon dinner, which was decent, but definitely not worth $28!?
It took me 43 years to get here, but we won't be returning again.
I do want to add that the server was very patient and accommodating with our daughter who was "having a moment.".
Next day edit food poisoning too.
We were seated at a table and waited half an hour for the waitress to get our food order. Forty minutes later she came and told us that we would have another hour to wait for our food order. They said there was a party that backed everything up you shouldn't seat people you can't serve as you waste people's time. We had to get up and eat elsewhere :-(
I love this place! It's a neighborhood bar that takes food seriously. Among many great offerings are wood-fired hamburgers that I dream about. The service is always good and welcoming. You'll feel like a happy regular on your first visit.
Food was amazing, highly recommend the Bloody Mary if you're into them. Great service and great atmosphere. Patio out back is awesome too if the weather's nice. Highly recommend!
Incredible burgers!!! Every time i am in Pittsburgh this is a "must" visit. Huge delicious tender burgers bursting other beef and wood smoke flavour! Family owned and operated. Street parking only but I've never had trouble finding a spot within a block or two, even during peak lunch and dinner times.
Consistently the best burger in town. You can taste quality products like you made them yourself. Decent beer selection. The seafood is catch of the day board is the hidden secret. I highly recommend trying anything on the daily board. The side dishes are minimal. They are know for burgers, but I'd have good money on them also having the best seafood around.
The food is here amazing. My mom is at West Penn Hospital and this place is within a nice walking distance. The chicken kebab and veggie kebab were perfectly cooked. The cheeseburgers were delish. Perfectly cooked and a really nice size. The fresh brewed ice tea is also perfect. It is nice and refreshing.
My family has been going to Tessaro's since the 80's and it's a staple in Pittsburgh for a reason. All the food is really great, the service impeccable, and the ambience top notch. Burgers are their forte but the other options are just as good.
Check the fish specials on the big board to the left as you walk in. My personal favorite, the Chicken Kebab with blackened chicken and potatoe salad.
PRO TIP: Also get the broccoli grilled. Phenomenal.
