This was probably one of the best authentic taco shops i ever visited in San Diego. I left very full and satisfied. Lots of meats to choose from but the alpastor is tge best. It only has one bad point and that is the crowd! That is expected when you have good food. With the crowd of course come the other problems like parking, and long lines which makes the wait a little long but well worth it. Highly recommend it!
Love the food. The meat is always tasty and their salsas are very good. All the employees are friendly and the guys making the tacos go as fast as they can to serve people. Now the location gets 0 stars. The parking situation just keeps getting worse. Now you might have to go park half a block away at the trolley station.
A group of friends and I dropped by this unassuming place on our way through town to Campo and were blown away by the incredible taste, portion size and very reasonable price. To quote each of us, "hands down, the best breakfast burrito ever!!"
Personally, I had the bacon breakfast burrito and it was amazing. So much so that everyone voted on going back for more on our way back to San Diego. No one got the same meal twice and were equally impressed with the value and delicious flavors. It's a definite "must do" if you're in the area.
The best Mexican tacos in the USA!! No doubt about it, they are well served, tasteful, and just like a street 'taqueria' from any Mexico city. Just love them! The service was pretty good, everyone with a smile in their face. Just D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S!!
Yes yes yes!!! This place is amazing! Clean place and amazing food with FANTASTIC staff. From the cooks making small talk and jokes with you to the ladies who cleaned our table, this place is great! 5 star for sure.
It was fun to go there. The food was great, but Gordon dies apply to the size of the tacos. I would definitely go again.
The tacos are amazing, it only goes down one star for me because the adobada and Al pastor line goes out the door and takes about 40 minutes to an hour to get to the front. It is their most popular item and the reason to go to Tacos el Gordo, but if you have two stations for this item, please utilize both of them to keep the line from getting too long. And please have someone that knows that station like the back of their hand. Last year the dude there was quick and the waiting never went above 30 minutes, but the new guy makes it so long.
In summation: Best tacos, best quality, best prices, terrible wait. But in the end you'll be glad you waited.
The tacos are always great. The pricing is a little high but worth it. If you're looking for a quick bite avoid lunchtime! Longest line is always the adobada line. Encourages you to try something new from another line. Been eating at this place since it was just a small taco shop in a parking lot in Tijuana
Been to all three Vegas locations and their Chula Vista one in California too. Amazing food and very down to earth and helpful employees who maintain a exceptionally clean restaurant. Famous figures are regularly seen here. Totally lives up to its expectations and represents what delicious Mexican tacos should taste like.
Bomb tacos for cheap! There are lots of great taco spots in San Diego and everyone has an opinion about which is the best, but I don't think anyone can argue that Tacos El Gordo has awesome tacos. They usually get pretty busy, but even then the tacos are made to order and they pump them out fast so you don't have to wait too long. But good luck finding a table during rush hour. Better to get them to-go and eat at home or the park.
I LOVE TACOOOOSSSS AND I LOVE THEM AUTHENTIC!!! I think it was a little hard to communicate on what I wanted but its okay because that just made appreciate that the food would really be authentic. If you go to San Diego, Tacos El Gordo is a Must have! The meat is good and the sauce is great.
I went back to order more tacos after eating my first round. They have different lines for different meats so make sure to stand in the right one!
I take people here whenever I have out of town guests. And they always remember this place cox it's so damn yummy! Al pastor is the bomb! The only draw back is I really hate the system of getting the food. You have to line up at multiple lines to get food. After lining up a multiple lines you go pay. The food already start to get cold. I'd much rather that I pay first and they call me up at different stations for pick up. This way I can eat it right away while waiting for the other food.
Great taste, but if you wait the wrong line, you can not get the taco what you want. Check it before you wait. What do you want to eat, and select to wait the line. Spicy pork was wonderful choice. Great taste!!! But lots of people. Need to wait for a long time. Plus stadd was very nice. (Hard to wait for a long time but was worth it for me)
Not impressed.. all those who Rave about these tacos ain't had a good taco yet.
My wife and I are on vacation out here for a few days.
I consider myself a good cook especially when it comes to Mexican food.
God willing I will be opening up a place in Pomona soon
I am not trying to trash this place but I swear! There are better tacos out there.
Their salsas are mediocre
Their beef has some flavor but nothing to write home about..
If I was able to turn back time I would have went across the street where my wife ate at Pollo Loco
At your own risk.
This place is great. I'm from Pennsylvania and took a trip out to LA to visit friends who took us here. It was almost a two hour drive but totally worth it. The spicy pineapple pork taco was amazing. I got two and then ate two more and could probably have eaten those continuously for the next several hours but we had other stuff to go and do so unfortunately I couldn't. But next time I'm in that area, I'm going to hate myself a feast. Prices are very reasonable. Not even $3 for a taco. Go here!
