I went there for the Boy Scout National Jamboree and the facility was great. This is the biggest Scout Camp you'll ever go to. They are still working on a few items but definitely held 40,000 people easily. I can't wait to go to the World Jamboree there. If you have the chance to go I highly recommend it.
I was here for the 2017 National Scout Jamboree and I absolutely loved this place. The terrain changes quite often from wide open fields to thick trees. This site allows for all different types of activities, from fishing to zip lining. This place offeres it all. The site is incredibly large and a great place just to wonder and take in all of the beautiful West Virginia moutians. The restroom facilities are enclosed but not fully there is a an exposed bottom about 8" tall where wind and leafs can blow through. Now be aware the temperatures are freezing cold even in the middle of summer it would take your breath away. There are no stall doors, instead there are white curtains. I would highly recommend this site to any troop who is looking for a fun high adventure experience!
I went there for the 2017 Jamboree. It was amazing. The best thing I've ever done. The tents were good and the activities were great. People complained about the bathrooms, but what do you expect? i had a great time.
This place is huge! Disneyland for Boy Scouts. Facilities are new and well kept. Great job on the charging stations placed throughout the camp. The price of the camp was a little steep. I question the value, but it was an overall good experience.
I was here in 2013 for the National Jamboree. It was a great experience. The facilities were great. The location is awesome. All of the activities they have on sight are amazing. Being able to participate with so many other thousand of Scouts was great. I especially loved the biking area and the climbing walls that they have. I never was able to get the one clima done. Right on the corner of one of the walls, with a slight overhang. I certainly tried though. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to come back for the World Jamboree. Should be fun.
Nice camp, but was very poorly ran for our large group camp (3000+ campers). Staying was woefully inadequate and boys were often turned away from activities. Camp was short of lifeguards and asked for volunteers, but wouldn't let scouts lifeguard despite Red Cross certs. They expected leaders to pick up the slack.
It was expensive and a 6 hour drive, and we had a very poor experience. Several of our scouts never want to duo a scout camp again.
BSA had a real opportunity, and could have used it as a dry run for Jamboree. But they didn't care and and they failed miserably.
This is a first class scouting reservation! If I had any complain at all it's that the place is too big! The kids don't seem to mind but the walking mileage will get to you after a couple of days! We will definitely go back again and again if given the opportunity! There is nothing that a kid could want to do that isn't here! Top notch!
Amazing adventure experience. They have so much to do there. Zipline, challenge course shooting, swimming, boating, fishing, hiking, canopy tour. Too much to do in the time we had there. Tons and tons of merit badges.
Awesome place with many high adventure activities, like zip lines, mountain biking, archery, etc.
What a great experience! My son and I really enjoyed this camping trip. Lots to do and learn! Traversing the camp site in a timely manner is challenging though (huge camp site, substantial distance between certain activities). Planning your activities with travel in mind is critical and guidance on that point for first time visitors to this site is limited at best (there was confusion on the location of certain activities, etc). The camp is still developing and sometimes organization and planning need some work (i.e. when we first arrived they moved our camp site multiple times before settling us into one that still needed some setup, despite having booked our stay many months in advance). Also, beware the wild life! There was a late night encounter with a snake of questionable threat-level who decided to wander through our campsite, but luckily we noticed it before anyone stepped on it, and were able to get one of the staff members to "take care" of it with the appropriate "caliber" of service ;-)
Overall though, great experience!
really nice place really enjoyed my time here during the first ever jamboree here in 2013
The site of the next and all future Jamborees could not be in a better location. The scenery is amazing and there are plenty of activities for scouts to do. They have a wide range of programs through out the year and when the Jamboree is not in session. It will take your scouts over a week to see and do everything they have to offer. Visit their website for more details. You will not be disappointed.
