Best campground in Lower Peninsula, hands down. Just get your reservations in early as they sell out quick!

We had a misunderstanding while booking the group site because we had a dog camping with us. They were not accommodating or empathetic in any way. We were 5.5 hours from home. When asked if there was anything we could do, the ranger looked at us with a blank gaze and said " You will have to find and pay for a kennel. We do not offer refunds" When asked "Why are dogs allowed throughout the campground but not on a "group site" the ranger said " I am guessing because of wear and tare on the site? But honestly I don't know." They had us take down our tent and repack all our gear and relocated us to a hike in site. The hike in site (6+7) was 300 yards from the parking lot and the bathrooms. More importantly, these two sites could not accommodate the number of tents we had (they must have known bc they asked the number of tents and their size before moving us). We were fine with moving sites bc we didn't want to break any rules. We had to pack up and leave and pay for a motel. They refunded us the difference in price for the sites from group to s normal site, but refused to refund. We drove past our group site on our way out, it was vacant. This was a horrible experience, we will never stay in this campground nor will our 8 other guests and there families.We are all very active in the camping community and all plan to spread the word about how poorly we were treated at this location. We understand policy, especially to protect the parks! We take accountability that we must have missed the writing on the site that specified group sites are exempt from the campgrounds dogs are allowed policy. We are shocked at how callus and rude the staff was towards us. It was an honest mistake. We paid $50 a night and had no where else to go. This ruined what was supposed to be a lovely trip. We had all had been looking forward to visiting for years to come.

Awesome campground with electric hook-up. Short hike to Lake Michigan (1 Mile). Clean showers and bathrooms and dishwashing station. Firewood for sale $5 per bundle. Quiet and family friendly. Several small lakes. Short drive to the Pierce Stocking Scenic drive to view the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes with little walking. Don't miss that!

Loved this campground! Our rustic tent site was nestled back into a little cove -completely away from any sight of our neighbors. There was a nice pond view and tons of trees. The hike to Lake Michigan was far but the beach is gorgeous. My only complaint is that a ranger came to our site at 6am waking me up, and left us a citation for leaving out a water bottle and empty vodka bottle (they stated it could attract bears) -we were always careful to clean up and food and drinks but in this case it was really late and just forgot those two things on our table. Aside from that-we had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend here. I recommend it greatly.

The campgrounds were clean and beautiful. unfortunately with 2 little kids there was little to do besides hiking. We love our hiking but it would be nice if there was a small playground. It was chilly during the evening when we went and the bathroom/shower situation is strange. the showers are in a single room and when you are done you have to walk outside and around to the bathroom to dry your hair and brush your teeth.
I wish the map on their website would have been clearer as to where the facilities were in relation to the campsites. We would have picked one closer! It also said WiFi was available but later found out it's only available when you are standing at the Ranger station.
We've been to other campgrounds that offer a nature center and small crafts to do. maybe they had this but we couldn't find anything.
We might go back but we will have to find other things in the area to do as well. As a tent camper it's sad to see the campground full of motorhomes. We saw maybe 2 people outside the whole time. To each their own I guess

The Best campground I have been to.
Breathtaking beauty that is Pure Michigan! Sleepling Bear Nation Shoreline. Platte River National Campground, is, this year (2016) 100 years strong!
There are no charge for showers and they are hot. You will however be required to purchase a Park Pass for $15.00 (which gives admittance to Pierce Stocking). There is a campsink at every bath/shower facility with spigot cold drinking/cooking water. The campsites are unbelievably secluded with tall red pines and oak trees. There are black bear in the area but do not let that keep you from coming! We choose to camp with a tent and electricity$27.00 per night. 1.5 mile walk to beautiful Lake Michigan. Walking trails through wooded beauty and if you are quiet enough you will come upon pheasant, all kinds of song birds. Chipmunks, which I haven't seen in years.
This area has ample biking, hiking, senic over looks of the majestic Sleeping Bear Dunes. Canoeing, kayaking, fishingget out there and be somebody! Made me feel like a kid again.

This place is typical of most national and Michigan State parks. It's extremely clean, and very well maintained. The sites are large and provide plenty of privacy. The bathrooms and showers were all in great working order. It's has easy access to the Michigan shore line, Platt river for canoeing, and only a 15 minute drive from the Sleeping Bear dune climb.

It's clean and nice. I've been going to this campground since I was little. Water is smooth and warm and crystal clear.
