OUTSTANDING TONKOTSU RAMEN! Add this gem to your food adventures in Portsmouth! Haven’t been disappointed with any of the dishes we’ve tried year after year! Stupendous is the service! Crowded it is from 6-8:30pm! Make a reservation or wait! Well worth the trip!

Shio is our favorite restaurant in the Portsmouth, NH area! Cherry and Alvin, the owners do everything possible to make our, what we like to refer to as "Shio Moments". pleasurable and fun. I have a special salad that I made up and they make it for me every time we go there. They call it "Carrie Salad" after me. Also, we usually have the same things when we go there for dinner once a week, and all the wait staff have our orders memorized! Shio is a one of a kind restaurant with their Tatami Rooms for extra privacy.

It's hard to go to other restaurants for sushi when you know it won't be Shio sushi! I wouldn't dream of going anywhere else. The staff is lovely and kind and they always make sure you're satisfied.

Friendly, attentive, and aware staff. Always a smiling welcome at the door. Smells great, clean, tidy, authentic, and well decorated. Prices are very fair and the food is perfect. Enjoy it!

This is probably the best sushi in the seacoast, certainly my favorite Japanese restaurant if not my favorite restaurant in general. It's a busy place with an extensive menu, and fast, "team-style" service (multiple servers attend to each table). The waitresses are always super nice to my two year old and they give her the "training" chopsticks etc. Even though it shows "$$" for price, if you know how to order—and just in general because of the quality and portion size—you get exceptional value for your money here (especially with the lunch specials). For a similar cost to a meal at a crappy chain restaurant like Applebee's, you get great sushi and other classic Japanese food. The desserts, like the fried banana, are amazing and done with style as well.

I've eaten at alot of sushi restaurants around New England and this one I believe tops them all. Sushi is fresh, very well prepared, and with three sushi chefs I know the fish turnaround is fresh. One of the few restaurants the presents you with a hot towelette to clean your hands after you sit down. Top knotch at modest prices.

Sushi refers to rice, not fish, and too many "sushi" places don't do justice to the rice. This place does rice justice. It's a great foundation for the rest of what they do--and the fish is great. Great service from staff who are clearly proud of what they are doing.

Shio is a great place to get sushi while being welcomed by the owners themselves. The sushi is clean and fresh. Most days there is a positive short wait for a table or take out as they deliver good food that keeps locals happy.
