The trails are great and a good cardiovascular workout without the need for running. Plus**They allow dogs in the campground and on all trails**

Campsites are well spaced. The bathrooms are clean. Good hiking available. You can hear highway noise at the campsites which was a bit disappointing but otherwise it is a very nice park.

A spectacular forest in southern Ohio known by the locals as the 'little smokies' with the rolling hills and unbroken forests, it is a botanical treasure. This state forest has a nice lodge and while is quiet in the forest, is close to Portsmouth OH with good places to eat and historic sites to visit. The Shawnee is about one hour from the Wayne National Forest Ironton Ranger District in Ironton OH to the east with Lake Vesuvius. The Wayne is over 60,000 acres in several counties in southern Ohio and is also close to the Dean State Forest, the Crown City Wildlife Area which is a birders paradise and the Cooper Hollow Wildlife Area in Oak Hill. Nature lovers enjoy!
