If you are looking for something a little different for a date night or family outing, this place is it. You won't be disappointed, and this has become one of my favorite hangouts. It's always fun to see live acting, I adore Shakespeare, and you can wine and dine while you watch the show.
The Bard as he was meant to be experienced in a crowded theatre with a tall beer! (Or three)
I've been going to shows here for the past 15 years, and have never been disappointed by a performance.
Really enjoyed the experience. The play was very professionally done. The actors were excellent. The seating was tight but all good seats.
I was the first one of our group of 14 to arrive for a preview night. The amazing volunteer staff helped me to secure a box section right away so that we can all sit together and even helped me carry food to our tables. The food was great, I had the dragon noodles and Zucchini bread. The current show, Twelfth Night, was spectacular! The characters were each well defined and we howled with laughter. I would highly recommend seeing it!
AMAZING! Words CAN describe how wonderful it was, however I am not Shakespeare, and I do not have the breadth of vocabulary to properly express the genius and talent that is this theatre. The show was incredible! The actors and actresses are spectacular, and the feeling is so intimate and special. In addition the food was great. The staff are all so friendly, and I can't think of anything that could be improved upon. Absolutely wonderful. We laughed, we cried, we haven't had so much fun in years. We will recommend this to everyone we know. We would gladly make the 10 hour drive from our home to see this again, and to bring the rest of our family. For those who live in Atlanta DON'T MISS THIS!
Wow. I loved this place. At first I was skeptical because there was a line and I would think they would benefit from online printing. The food and the performance wowed me. I was expecting mediocre food and performance but I was happily wrong. Love this place.
My first time here and it was wonderful. You sit and eat your food through the acts. Also set up like a traditional Shakespearean theatre. The actors are great and the food was wonderful.
The prices are incredibly reasonable and the actors are mind-blowingly good. The food is delicious and cheap. I've never gone to a bad performance here or ordered food I didn't like. The area is very well proportioned so even if you sit in the balcony area you can see everything. If you do balcony seating get there early! It's first come first serve.
The cafeteria style British food was surprisingly good. They have a good and wide selection of beers and even a full bar. The entertainment was wonderful! The actors were amazing and their interpretation of Shakespeare was modern and easy to follow. I have been here several times and each time they wow me.
This is a great place for a fun evening of food and entertainment. The tavern is the home of an excellent "original practice" company of performers specializing in the works of William Shakespeare. They do others as well; last time we were there it was for selections from Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. The company also does a lot of educational outreach to engage the interest of young people in literature and performance art.
Dinner and drinks are available before the performance, and dessert and drinks are available at intermission. (The cost of food and drink is in addition to the ticket price for the performance.) The best seats are the front row of tables, right in front of the stage. But be careful - you might get included in the action. (It happened to me once - fun!) If you go once you will almost certainly want to go again, and maybe even become a supporter or a volunteer.
Great acting and atmosphere. The actors were very expressive and really brought the play (Much Ado About Nothing) to life. If you think Shakespeare is dry and academic, this will change your mind. He wrote his plays to entertain people and that really comes through.
Shakespeare Theater is a wonderful intimate theater. The performances by professional actors are always first rate. The food is good too. It's a great place to go in Atlanta.
We attended the Saturday night performance of Much Ado About Nothing. It was spectacular, and the talent of the actors was very much on display at a high level. In particular the young man playing Don Pedro was a shining star. You also get a chance to buy dinner, and the food was delicious. I am looking forward to returning.
My wife and I had a wonderful evening at Shakespeare Tavern while enjoying the Valentines Burlesque show. The venue is very cozy with great views of the stage no matter the seating choice. We will definitely be back for more theater at Shakespeare Tavern. For your own safetydon't try to "help" the bartender! Lolhe'll know what I mean. Highly recommend.
I got to see my best friend in Two Gentlemen of Verona last night and I had a great time! The first floor of the theatre has tables where you can sit down and eat. It sounds like their tomato basil soup and their cornbread are quite popular! But they also offer salads and sandwiches. As well as desserts like apple pie a la mode.
The production quality her is great! The sets and costumes looked awesome. And the directing and performances were fantastic! I was happy to see such a funny show!! They handled the comedy with ease and made it feel very accessible!
