The parking is really convenient, which I love. You can pay by the hour or by the day. Before you buy your parking ticket though check to see if it's been paid for. If you're camping out near the beach your parking might already be paid for. I made the mistake of repurchasing a parking ticket for the beach after already paying for parking at my campsite.

If you're going to leave mid day don't buy the full day pass. There are enough people with free passes that your spot will most likely be taken if it's a popular one.

I bought a full day pass thinking it would be kept safe because surely the machine would not allow anyone to buy a ticket for a spot that's been sold out for the day.

After I came back after lunch, someone with a monthly pass had taken my spot.

The beach itself is full of twigs so it's not the ideal location for something like ultimate frisbee or football.

Sup surfers have to go all the way to the end of the parking lot as anyone that has a paddle is told by lifeguards to stay off the surfers waves. Longest rides in Cali! Showers and none competitive easy going vibe. 🤙🤙

San Onofre State Beach is a great spot to go hang out at. Located in Southern California, San Onofre has great waves for long board surfing. The waves roll in nice and slow making it perfect for long board surfing. You do have to walk some distance before you get to the beach, but it is well worth the walk. You can also pay for parking. San Onofre State Beach is one of the few places that you can have a bond fire and camp overnight in a tent right on the beach. "San O," San Onofre State Beach is an awesome place.

This is a beautiful place to camp. Nice walk down to the beach. There are no private showers, just an outdoor shower for rinsing. Fairly clean bathrooms. The campsites are close to one another (I guess it’s a seaside California thing). It gets pretty hot in the middle of the day, so bring a shade tent if you have one. My partner cycled along the roads, and it was beautiful, I was told. The beach is a bit rocky, but it was still enjoyable. We will definitely come back in the future.

This is a really beautiful piece of the California Coastline! It is a great place to collect seashells, fantastic place to surf, and you park right next to the beach area, with only a few steps to the shoreline from your vehicle (makes for very easy loading and unloading with small kids or a family). There are public restrooms, and the folks who go here always seem laid back, good natured, and friendly. Wonderful place to sit back and watch the tide go in or out, too! Best of all, entry is free if you are camping at San Onofre or San Mateo Campground. Gotta love saving $15 per day!

Great place a little loc'd out won't let SUP and reg surfers play together. It's like skiers and snowboarders not allowed on the same Hill. I have a dream where SUP and surfers can exist together and enjoy the ocean, be nice and have fun!!

It was $15 to park and I went there to take my dog to the beach for the first time. We took the #1 path and part of it was horribly steep and soft dirt and I was wearing sandals being pulled by an eager dog. So along comes a man with his big dog off leash. I was afraid there would be a scrum but my dog stayed cool. Please look past yourselves and keep your dog on its leash. I know that sometimes rules suck, but there are people in the world who have a great fear of dogs and there are also dogs that fear other dogs and will bite if approached. The beach itself was quiet otherwise with nobody there on a gloomy afternoon.

Really nice beach site. 35 bucks a night for a campsite right on the beach. Has hard latrines and showers with hot water. Laundry machines that take quarters. The beach is rocky in the water until about 10 ft from the dry sand. But after that it's all smooth sand. The little shop sells wood. And there's fire pits. I'll definitely stay here again. I enjoyed my 3 days here

A couple of friends and I drove down to San Clemente for a surf trip and had a blast. We stayed at a campground nearby and surfed here a few days. The last day we stayed til closing, had a bonfire in one of the pits and just chilled and watched the sunset and surfed until we couldn't see the waves. The water is warm and looks clean, the beach is cool when the tide is low and the bathrooms were what I would expect from any state park beach. I think there was a shower that was broken, that may be my only complaint but we brought our own jugs of water to rinse off with so not a big deal. Definitely going to make an annual voyage down here from Santa Cruz, CA

PRO: Amazing spot to camp, only a couple miles from the beach. Clean campsites with fire pits.

CON: Rangers are not friendly and are very strict on protocol. Costs $1 for a 5 minute shower..

Great surf spot, pull your car up to the sand, and dogs are good on leash(off leash down the beach). $15.00 to enter the park for the day regardless what time you get there. Also space is limited so there is commonly a line on Saturdays and Sundays.

This is a surfer beach, not really and chilling beach. Shallow beach, surrounded by big cliffs. Some parts of the beach you will have to hike down (like at the campsite) to some very rocky beaches (there is small sandy beach). Parking is very limited not recommended if you have a sports car because of the dirt road is very uneven.
Overall if you like surfing, this would be good place, not too far from car to water, waves are good, and you have restrooms and showers.

There is a good surf break. The beach is cobbled in spots and the state has removed the showers that were in place in the past. Old time surfers and their families still come to enjoy surfing and mingling.
