5 + stars ❤ all time favorite place. It's so peaceful and an absolutely gorgeous garden. A bit pricey when it comes to admissions, but quite frankly I don't visit much to complain about the high prices. I try to visit this place at least 1-2 times a year. Highly recommend for both adults and the wee little ones.

I love the gardens overall, however, I went to the Garden of Lights event. I called the Welcome Center and asked if the whole garden would be lit up and the woman I spoke with said most of it would be. I would say that only 1/8th of the garden had lights. It was beautiful in that small section, but you can walk through it in about 5 minutes. Not worth $20 per person. The areas of the garden that weren't lit weren't off limits, but you need to have a flash light to get around.

This is a very unique collection of plants, shrubs, trees and herbs from all over the world at one location. There are many different groups of plants arranged by the location they come from or the type of plant they are. My favorites were the Mexican garden with beautiful topiaries, the Bamboo Garden and the herb garden.
There is a separate children's garden which is a challenge to get down to but worth the walk. It includes a fun tree house with a great view of the grounds. Several things are important to note for visitors coming here. The grounds have quite a bit of variation in height and can be challenging for those who have difficulty walking or are in a wheelchair. Most of the paths are unpaved dirt and can also be muddy after it rains. I visited when a free shuttle with a tour guide was available which was a huge bonus. This gave me the opportunity to see areas I have never felt like hiking to and also great information on the history of the gardens and the plants located there.
If you take the time to visit the botanic garden throughout the year you will see huge differences in the flowers and fruits. This is especially true when the flowers and fruit trees are blooming with lovely fragrances floating through the air.
Insider tips: San Diego locals can get in for free on the first Tuesday of each month. It is better to arrive in the morning as it can get very hot and more crowded in the afternoons. There are also special events and classes available.

Beautiful all year round. We went to see the corpse flowers. They hadn't bloomed yet, but were still stunning. My favorite is the herb garden with the Mariachi topiary made with succulents.

We visited the gardens 17 years ago when it was Quail Botanic Gardens and again today. Sadly, there has not been much improvement. The children's garden is the best feature but the plants are not consistently in the areas such as plants from Africa mixed in with other countries etc. and labels are missing on many of them. We are going into autumn but even so the plants and areas are not well maintained. More interesting and well maintained are the Cuyamaca Water Conservation Garden and the many different types of gardens at Balboa Park. Hopefully this garden will improve because the location is fantastic and there are beautiful views of the coast.

Beautiful bontical gardens. Great options of paths that lead around different regions of plants. Nice, newer kid play area and spectacular bamboo forest. Highly recommend for photography buffs!

This is an excellent botanic garden. A great place to decompress after a couple of days in Legoland, etc. I loved the cork oak forest. The succulents had amazing color and form. There were a ton of fascinating plants with interesting stories and fun activities for the kids, including an adventure tree house. The children's garden is superb.

Absolutely love this place. I always go early during the week with my four year old when it's not too crowded and so that he has a chance to play with the activities in the children's garden. The aroma of the plants is so relaxing, very lush and green, and lots to see! Bring plenty of water there is a small cafe to eat at and be prepared for walking. There are plenty of benches around every corner to sit and just gaze at the beauty of this place along with art and sculptures. I enjoy is this place best when it is overcast. Parking availability is always plentiful, staff is always friendly.

Beautiful place, wonderful variety of plants, sculptures, many special events during the year as well as classes on things plant-related. Easy to spend a day wandering the grounds on well- marked paths.

This place is a hidden treasure! Beautiful plants and sculptures throughout the garden. The children's area is awesome and saw many families letting their children explore and their is a nice play area. Highly recommend!

This place is beautiful with lots of areas to explore. All the different trees and plants make it a photographer's paradise. They had a temporary exhibit of interesting statues throughout the gardens that were a treat to see, very artfully crafted. Only complaint would be there was a tapestry exhibit that we couldn't find. Tip: shop closes at 4pm.

This place is very well organized,and servicing the free ride inside of the garden for people who need a help to go somewhere. Parking is easy,and from the parking lot you can choose the direction where to go. Parking lot is located in the middle of the garden. They have a gift shop and a cafeteria,too. Recommend to visit here with families.(they have a children's zone)
