I was stationed at NAS North Island 1968 - 70 and worked at NAVAIRSYSCOMREPAC just inside the main gate. I loved the base and the surrounding area. The Bunker Hill was still there after the Japanese severely damaged her during WWII. I also saw the "Jap Zeros" and other planes flown in for the movie Tora, Tora, Tora sitting dockside waiting to be loaded up on the carriers. Very weird seeing "Jap planes" with the big red ball sitting on a Naval Air station.
Loved every minute of my 3 years in North Island!
Stationed here for about Four weeks for FRAMP training, then sent overseas. I had some good times here, not necessarily in training, but out on Coronado, San Diego and Tijuana, Mexico.
Being a navy brat, then an enlisted personnel, this base is unique place.
This beach is very family-friendly . I love how clean and nice it is kept up as well .
Was back there in 81 to 85 vs-29 was a nice place.
I'm giving it a 5 star from past events, This was my first naval experience as a sailor in the navy in 1981, I love this base, beautiful, big and big aircraft carriers i enjoy being a part of USS RANGER/USS KITTY HAWK, Life was good then :) Retiree Navy Veteran
Magnificent. The kitchenette unit is nicely appointed. The shower stall is large and there is more than ample hot water. Highly recommended. A no pet facility.
Looks super cool. Full of big navy ships. Have seen it from the bay only.
