The hot dog's flavor was unimpressive and not remotely juicy, it was on the small side and served with a cold bun. The sandwiches had a decent amount of meat, but there was barely any cheese in them after cheese was specifically requested. All buns were served with a pickle nestled against them, which would be fine if you like your bread slightly soggy and tasting of pickle. But that's not really my thing. The "Freedom Fries" (an odd relic of nationalism from the early aughts. But yes, they were indeed French cut) lacked any detectable seasoning and had only minimal salt. The meal wasn't awful but it wasn't remotely "good" and did not resemble the quality of hot dogs/sandwiches served in Chicago.
Friendly & fast service. I request the hotdog fixins in a separate container so the bun doesn’t get soggy. Been going here for years! Best Chicago dogs around. Love the $1 hotdogs on Sunday!
Was dying for a Chi dog as I was driving by Sammy's. Was not disappointed. Great taste of Chicago without the obnoxious Cubs fans.
Great dogs! !! Good fries. Affordable. Worth every cent. Couldn't cook this any better at home. I tip my hat to Sammy's
The Chicago dogs are great, but Sammy's has my all time favorite fries. Sammy is always friendly and in a good mood. Everything is delicious...as long as its a dog, fry, or shake. I been there a hundred times and never had anything else.
There is no air conditioning in the building which makes it nearly unbearable inside. My mother makes me buy her a cheese steak there about once a month and it always comes out soggy. Its not soggy with delicious juice, its more like a greasy, watery miasma.
Great Chicago dogs, delicious Italian beef, chicken filets, crispy fries, fast service and reasonable prices -- and half-price Chicago dogs on Sunday. It doesn't get much better than this for a fast and tasty meal.
I was born in Chicago, and this reminds me of the best of my childhood eating Chicago Style Dogs. These guys have an awesome hot dog, awesome strawberry shake, and fries that I really love that are not overloaded with salt. They also are SUPER cheap and fast. I prefer this over Portillo's because it is so fast, tastes great, and is way cheaper. Great, friendly, and courteous people working there too, I'll be back many times. Also, get the meal deal, it is worth it especially for the Sprecher Root Beer!
This is a hot dog restaurant, and not a gourmet dining experience. The establishment was clean, there was adequate seating, and the service was very good. These are really good hot dogs and the portions are generous. If you want to eat at a friendly, unpretentious restaurant, this place is for you.
My fiancé suggested this place when I said I was kind of in the mood for a hot dog. It was easy to find, their parking lot is small but we were there right at noon and there were several spaces available so I don't anticipate parking to be a problem for anyone, unless maybe on a weekend.
Everything here is priced REALLY well. We got a jumbo dog, a jumbo chili dog, two orders of fries, and two milkshakes for $16. The man at the counter, who I believe was the owner, was really funny and great to talk to.
Our milkshakes were done in just a minute or two and were delicious. There were no burst capillaries trying to get it through the straw, it was the perfect consistency for easy sipping. They also came with a little wafer cookie tucked into it, very cute and really yummy.
Our dogs and fries were ready very quickly and were awesome. The fries were really hot, very fresh, and the dogs had a good snap when you bit into them. They came in soft poppy seed buns.
Everything was really good, highly recommend going here whenever the mood for a hot dog strikes you!
Good. Sunday half off. Stick to the hot dogs, don't waste your time with the beefs. Hot dogs are great.
New to the area, so my children and I gave them a try. The food was great and the service was top notch! Will definitely go there again! :)
Quick service. Cheap, good tasting food. I'd say the atmosphere is like a good dive bar, but without the bar.
It was very hot today. Have never been here before. Walk in - no air-conditioning to start with. This restaurant was very, very dirty from the tables to the floors. The tables were sticky and some needed to have garbage cleaned off of them. There was food and all sorts of crumbs on the floor. It looked like it hadn't had a good cleaning in a very long time! We did stay and eat - the food was good but I don't think I'll ever go back when there are so many good clean restaurants in the area.
Sammy's has been around a long time (since 1989). They have only been at this location for about 2 years. The parking is much better, there is easy handicap access and now, outdoor seating. All of the old decorations from the original shop remain. If you want a hot dog, there is nothing better than Sammy's in the entire area. In addition to hot dogs they have other sandwiches such as (good) Italian beef, etc.
