This is a great place to camp or just for the day.
If camping, please beware of these things;
Bears really do come into your camp. Do Not leave any food or trash out. They will get into it. Use the bear proof food storage bins and the bear proof trash bins that are provided.
Bring plenty of Deep Woods Off bug spray. One can per person per three day period.
Fire ants/Army Ants are everywhere. They have very painful bites.
Be wary of poisonous snakes. Learn to identify each one in whatever region you camp.
On the fun side, you'll see a lot of deer, turkeys, coons, squirrels, various birds and hear numerous owls.
There are bathrooms and showers, fire pits and picinic tables. Other than these items, you are in the wild.
I have met two of the staff members working the front gate. Both ladies are incredibly sweet and helpful.

Wonderful place. We had a great time in the water watching the fish and snorkeling down the cracks from where the springs water comes out. Water as clear as glass .

I love Florida wild life but I don't consider the dozens of black Vultures flying around the picnic tables a natural environment. At the
$6 a person (thats right $6 a person) you'd think that the park would be able to manage the trash attracting the birds!!! There are so many other FL run state springs; you don't have to subject yourselve to carrion animals if you don't like too.

I've been coming here for 13 years or even longer. My experience this go around has been bad. We have had our stuff stolen right out from our campsite and our truck. There has been no staff that has come to us and apologize or even attempt to give us any info on who I should contact about this. Yes the law was called and I have a case number regarding the incident. But to have your stuff stolen right out from underneath you feels like we have been violated. Camping life is supposed to be fun but this year my vacation has been ruined. If you decide to stay at Salt Springs, MAKE SURE U TIE YOUR YETI COOLERS DOWN!!!! and any other valuables YOU do not want to go missing.

Great experience camping at Salt Springs. The rest rooms and bath house were well maintained and the camp site was in waking distance to the water. Highly recommend camping here.

Also note, $6.00 per person to enjoy the springs for a day without camping. Well worth the money if you enjoy snorkeling.

Well kept, but not much privacy between close together campsites. Low wood forageability. Mostly families so it's nice and quiet at night, not a huge party campground like Ginnie springs. Clean bathrooms and really nice spring swimming area.

The USForestry staff are courteous and kind; full of stories about nature, the history of Salt Springs and when I inquired about it being safe to swim in the Springs, replied laughingly, "this being Florida, gators are everywhere." Gee thanks.

But, undaunted, I summoned the courage to swim - with Chicago Bob, a repeat 'Snowbird' local at Elite and Juniper Springs, as my 'guide' (or second option for breakfast, if a gator decided we were food) - and it was totally awesome! With big birds perched on the posts, warming themselves with wings outstretched, I swam with schools of Mullets, Bass, in and over the Spring vents, a few turtles, and wait for it Manatees! YES!!! My first time at The Springs and I was blessed with Manatees, who decided to pop up and swim under and around us! Not allowed to touch them per law, I could see deep wounds, some cuts/scars more fresh than others, caused by incredibly stupid people who apparently don't value Manatees or the fact that Manatees have lived in these waters far longer than they or their families have been alive.

Definitely a 'go to' place to swim, kayak or canoe. And, although there is a Salt Springs Marina a few hundred feet from The Springs, boaters of the motoring kind, could choose to launch in other areas, in order to avoid the shallower waters, where they have and are likely to (again) run over the slower-moving Manatees and their young.
