Service was great until the doctor came in. The Dr was a know it all and very rude. I wish I knew his name so I could drop it but they wouldn't even give me discharge papers, because I interrupted him while " I was talking" to his nurse who was doing a fine job. I have serious medical issues and brought all my medical records with me. If you go to school 8yrs to be a doctor you should know how to read and stay quite and let your nurse do the job. I have a TBI and was very disappointed on the lack of treatment I got and it was a holiday. So disrespectful. If you choose to be a Dr be one one has time to pay for your attitude. Sometimes you have to read and listen. Horrible hospital service I will never suggest this hospital to anyone else anymore and I'm popular in a way , so that's your loss. St. Luke was an awesome doctor and y'all are giving him a bad name. No one who works there probably even knows that but your informed now. Horrible hospital service!response / report this review -

Got an MRI but been waiting over 6 weeks to get results while my Son in pain. Going somewhere else with test results. "Do No Harm"? What do you call it when you make patients wait in pain for options. Ridiculous!

I'm here right now. The respiratory therapist was no help whatsoever. I came in due to an asthma attack and she wouldn't listen to me and seemed very uninterested in my situation. She's working the night shift right now, she's terrible. I work in the healthcare feild and she was very unprofessional. I am being admitted into the hospital and it has been over 10 house I AM STILL IN THE FRIGGIN ER ROOM!

Imagine my suprise to see a 2.6 rating? My first advice would be for you to close your walk in clinic before you kill someone! I went to the walk in clinic on Barry Road because I was out of meds for my Asthma. I am a 48 year old professional guy with health insurance. I was told that I needed a prescription and that I would need to be a patient and make an appointment. I was told that the earliest I could be seen was Tuesday? Ok this is Friday and I am having trouble breathing. I told them I cant wait till Tuesday. I have had Asthma for 37 years and this cant wait till Tuesday! I was sent away without even being talked to! I went to HyVee accross the street to Meritas pretty close to a full blown Asthma attack. I was taken care of immediately. I will never return to any St Lukes hospital. Ever! At almost 50 I have never been treated like that by any health official! A 2.6 rating my ass! I could have died and got better care at a grocery store that was my last resort before going to an ER! I would give them at least a negative 10. And advise anyone that needs medical help. Do not go there!

This is the absolute worst hospital in the Kansas City area.
They make Truman Hospital look like a premier leader in healthcare.
My wife was suffering from an extremely high fever in association with a severely infected cyst. The standard treatment is to lance the cyst, drain the infection, and treat with antibiotics and pain killers.
Simple right?
Apparently, in the "understaffed" emergency room, this requires a three and a half hour wait before a nurse will even see her back to a treatment area. She asked why it was taking so long to do a simple ten-minute procedure and the nurse said, "We only have two doctors on staff today."
Really?
You have an operating (and I use that term very lightly) Emergency Room where people go when in an EMERGENCY, and you don't have enough doctors to see a patient faster than four and a half hours after they arrive? Luckily, the infection hadn't gotten to her bone marrow at that point (it was extremely close) otherwise she would have developed an irrevesible infection and potentially died.
Every single experience with this location garners the same things:
No less than five hours spent at the location.
Understaffed ER.
Rude nurses.
And they charge at the highest legal cost available.
I'm sick of this location.
If you have a life threatening illness or injury, you're better off driving to North Kansas City Hospital. At least you'll be seen and treated before you die in the waiting room at this trash heap of a hospital.response / report this review -

Had to unfortunately visit the ER, but the care i received from my ER doctor and her nurse at this hospital made my experience amazing. They listened to my concerns and didn't order tests that i didn't need and took the best care of me. Even the gentleman that wheeled me to and from my CT scan was so nice and made me feel less afraid. I highly recommend this hospital

DO NOT GO HERE
My wife was burnt on her thigh (deep partial thickness, the size of a small dinner plate). We were admitted and saw the ER doctor in a reasonable amount of time. The doctor looked at the burn and all he could say was “ouch, that’s going to hurt.” They provided ZERO treatment (Band aids and triple antibiotic cream tapped to skin.) We were discharged with a prescription for pain medicine and told to follow up with our primary care physician.
The next day, we decided to get a second opinion and I’m so glad we did. We went to the KU Burn Clinic. We were told if we would have just followed up with our primary care doctor, the wound would have likely become infected and would have required a skin graft. The wound was properly cleaned and scrapped for the first time.
Upon filing a complaint with St Luke’s on Barry Road, we were told it is the hospitals policy “not to clean or treat second degree burns.” They also stated that recommending us to follow up with our primary care physician was adequate.
Long story short: Our primary care physician is more equipped to handle a situation than this Emergency Room. I would never recommend this Emergency Room to anyone and my family and I will never go back.response / report this review -

Terrible, terrible hospital. They are slow and incompetent. If you need care, do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. There have to be 10 other hospitals you will get better service at!

Most of the staff here is kind of lacking. There were only 2 nurses who I enjoyed. I had to play phone tag, no one ever answers. The thing that made me the maddest of all was going in to get my second depo shot. The previous appointment they told me that I would have to pay $30 at this appointment because my insurance wouldn't cover it. I said ok and when I showed up for my appointment it was $37 and they were wondering where my shot was. They told me I had to supply the prescription that they never made for me. So the nurse called down to the pharmacy, I went to go pick it up and was told it would be $80 for the 3 doses. That's $90 more than they told me I would have to have. They are very unprofessional. Fortunately for me the nurse I had that day was very great. She worked with me to find a more affordable option for now. She also searched for formula samples when I told her I had started supplementing because I wasn't producing enough milk. She brought me 12 cans. My delivery nurse was also super amazing. But other than those two nurses iv had very unpleasant experiences with the staff.

I'd just like to say what a positive experience I had in this ED! Nicole, Lauren, Yvette and Kayla (CT) were kind, attentive, efficient and compassionate, taking care of my needs in a timely manner . I'm so appreciative!!

I was addicted to alcohol and my bipolar & pan-anxiety medical conditions were exacerbated. I called 911 due to a severe panic attack and withdraw symptoms that were causing me to have S/SX of impending delirium tremens which have a 30% mortality rate. Upon arrival at the Saint Luke's North –Barry ED I experienced the single most astonishing lack of competent care that I have ever received. The physician spoke to me maybe 2 or 3 times at the most throughout a stay that lasted about six hrs. I was hyperventilating so bad that my arms to my hands had gone numb, and my legs to my feet had also gone numb. My body was jerking so bad that I felt as if I was having a convulsion while conscious. I could barely speak. I was profusely diaphoretic. I also could not urinate because of tonic spasms. The nurses on duty blatantly made fun of me calling me a drug-seeker, and even claimed that I was refusing to give them a urine sample because, “You just want us to touch your penis: You’re a pervert!” After about 3 HRs of not urinating, a nurse followed by a trainee came into my room and said, “I'm going to insert the largest ‘straight-catheter’ in you that we've got! That’ll teach you!” The trainee followed her lead and said, “Perfect!” It took catheterization for 5 minutes while they exerted pressure on my bladder to empty my it, which was necessary because my bladder was locked-up into a tonic spasm. I have never suffered so much, for so long, and in so many ways; I was humiliated, insulted, laughed at, & then ultimately ignored to the point of patient abandonment. These nurses, this doctor, and the Saint Luke’s ED need to be shut down, lose all licenses, & along with CEO of the Saint Luke’s, who I believe is Mr. Matthew J. Wenzel should suffer both civil and criminal charges with imprisonment for the metaphoric genocidal holocaust that they play a key role in when any psychiatric or alcohol/drug addicted patient seeks their “care.” This ED and its staff are an abhorrent disgrace upon healthcare. I implore you; if you have been a victim of their negligence and breach of duty, please seek legal counsel immediately, notify the AMA & the Missouri Nurse’s Association. I implore you to be enduring & do not give up until justice has been rendered. At the Saint Luke's North Hospital–Smithville ED just hours later, the nurse there insulted me & lied to me: She & the social worker told me that “Smithville Psychiatric Center does not have any alcohol detox protocol or treatment.” Upon hearing this, I decided that I needed to commit suicide. Upon hearing “suicide” I discovered that they were then obligated to admit me to the Psychiatric unit. Within 10 minutes of being admitted to the psychiatric unit the medical physician & nurses concluded that I was at a high risk of entering delirium tremors, & a severe fall risk. They immediately placed me on their ALCOHOL DETOX PROTOCOL of a sliding scale of Librium. Over the next two days I was weaned off the Librium and experiencing no more withdrawals from alcohol. No thanks to either of Saint Luke’s EDs, I am not only alcohol free but literally thriving in every aspect of my life, thus proving that these ED personnel had mislabeled me as a drug seeker. I am doing so well that I now help others who need to find a way out of their addictions and the illusion of a seemingly ‘endless abyss of despair’ that mental illness often creates. I won, but rest assured, if patients who are victims of the Saint Luke’s ED “Healthcare” System’s blatantly negligent incompetence, do themselves justice by seeking legal counsel, reporting these abhorrent people to the appropriate authorities, Saint Luke’s EDs will cease to exist, to which I will gratefully say, “Amen, thank you Lord.” As a final note, I will say that I filed a complaint with the CEO who said, “Your vital signs remained stable throughout your treatment” as if that is a reliable sign of competent care. Even a prisoner of war can be WATERBOARDED & still have “stable vital signs.” This is not indicative of competent or compassionate care!

This is one of the most popular hospitals here in Kansas City and been around for a very long time now, the nurses & staff there, are just very friendly there, and give you care for you & your loved ones every time you go up there to the hospital.
My mom spent 34 1/2 years there from January 1979 until her retirement in June 2013, but still has been in nursing since 1969, now 48 years & counting.response / report this review -

Was diagnosed with leukemia by the ER physician on Dec 18, 2013 at 3am. I had driven myself there after my primary care doc's answering service called and told me to get there as soon as possible. Anyway, i was all alone and had just received the worst news possible but the doctor and nurses in the ER treated me like family and made it seem like everything was gonna be ok. I will forever be grateful to them.

Just gave birth to my beautiful son in the maternity ward at St. Luke's North. I can't get over the incredible kindness shown by all members of the staff! I couldn't imagine having a better experience. The newly renovated facility is lovely! The rooms feel almost hotel-like. The nurses made us feel so cared for. We felt like royalty!

Worst ER doctors and nurses ever. My daughter was VERY sick. Fever over 103 and they sent her home with antibiotics. 3 hours later she went septic and had to be taken to Children's Mercy hospital. They didn't even take the time to run any tests on her. She could have died. Lazy Staff!!!!!
