This is about my husband's recent patient experience. I rarely write reviews, but as a nurse (BSN-RN not at this hospital), I felt I had to express how atrocious this experience was. The only reason this place gets 2 stars was because the ED experience my husband had was very good (before being admitted), and the doctors were able to figure out what was wrong relatively quickly and were competent.
As soon as my husband got admitted to the unit from the ED, everything became a challenge. I'm not going to go into all of the details of his stay, but the way the nursing staff is trained to "take care of" people is extremely less than satisfactory. They don't round on patients AT ALL; they don't reassess pain; they don't reassess patients at all during their shift, even if you're post-op apparently; they don't do bedside shift report, or even let the patient know who their new nurse is during shift change AT ALL; and it takes CONSISTENTLY OVER 10 minutes for anyone to answer a call light, via intercom, and another 10-30min for a nurse to even come in. It took over a day for a nurse to even let me know that if my husband needed anything, including PRN pain meds, that he needed to just hit the call light. Umm, if a patient is in for pain management, why is it their responsibility to make sure their pain is managed? As a BSN-RN, I can tell you it's not. The nurse is supposed to assess pain, reassess pain after pain meds are given, and check in before the next round of PRN meds to see how the pain is doing. My husband spent days chasing pain management - the main reason the MD admitted him from the ED - and barely slept the entire time he was there because of that. Oh, and if someone is NPO and on fluids, there is no reason for that patient to become dehydrated because you forgot to reset the IV pump and the auto-setting had fluids running at 3ml/hr for several hours. Like, are you kidding me?! Oh, and I did ask a nurse to call the hospitalist to see if my husband could be taken off NPO, after not eating for about 2 days while admitted and only having NS running, and she didn't! She said "they'll probably not do anything about it," said she could ask anyway, and then didn't even check. I had to ask the night nurse to check before I left, which thankfully she eventually did, so my husband finally got a 3 hour window to eat before becoming NPO again, which could have realistically been an 8 hour window for eating. Ugh.
It's the nurse's job to make sure the patient is taken care of, not the patient's job to beg for help from their nurses. I don't care if you're short staffed. If that's the case, actually introduce yourself at the beginning of the shift; explain that it might take a little longer to receive care, but give a time estimate at least!; and be considerate and apologize if you're late giving meds or getting something for a patient. I could go on and ON about the obvious lack of management and/or patient care training running thru Med/Tele at this hospital (because that's not even the full list of issues experienced), but recalling the 4 days my husband spent there still infuriates me since it was so recent.
I was in early this morning for acute abdominal pain and was treated okay except for the poor labtech that was unfortunate enough to have to find a vein on me. But what really needs praise is the Patient Relations director, Mr. Smith. He took time out of his busy Tuesday morning to listen to me about how COVID cannot be the only thing they prep for. I was in there as a noncovid patient and was unable to have any family or anyone there for support. Thats not anyones fault but Mr. Smith took my concerns seriously and told me he will be looking into ways to make his ER patients feel less isolated during a visit like mine.
Thank you, Mr. Smith and staff for making this pandemic a little less hard on us all.
Great facilities and awesome staff well professional nice communication skills👌👍
I had a pacemaker put in there. I found the staff to be great, friendly and very professional. I feel that in my emergency situation my medical crew did a great job with where I was sent for where I live.
The staff and nurses were amazing! Cece, Marylou, Emi, Ashley, Christina, Niki, Lisa (and many others who helped me while I was there for an overnight stay) went above and beyond! I was always asked if I needed anything, if I had any questions, and anything else. They are by far the best hospital in the Overland Park Area! Thank you staff for your support! If I could give 10 stars I would!
I went in to a couple of appointments to the Professional Hearing Center. Every one that I delt with was nice and had the information I needed. From the information desk to the security officer to the doctor's office were I had my appointments.
Won’t be coming here again. Awful hospital.Nurses if that is what you call them are so arrogant and rude. This hospital used to be a good hospital. I just would not recommend this place to anyone. My time here with my Mom has been a nightmare.
I went to get blood work done here. The nurses that were in were very helpful and caring. I tend to work myself up over anxiety, and she was quick to help and calm me down. Friendly staff and no wait time
If I could give the child Jackie that I spoken to on the phone a zero I would. She had the worst phone manners and customer unservice. The b***h actually yelled at me over the phone. I went online to get a free insurance check. A woman named Michelle called me back to say that it was covered/that they took the insurance obviously or she would have said that they do not. I called back to make a consultation appointment to go over the requirements for it to pass through my insurance and apparently the uneducated trash on the phone said that it is not covered. I hate that instead of letting the patients talk with someone with more education on the matter (like the person actually working in that department) these petty front desk workers try to answer questions that they clearly have no clue about. This hospital needs to step their game up as far as the employees. That’s how the hospitals get shutdown, not because of the doctors, but the morale they keep. Clean hospital for the most part. But I will NEVER spend my insurance money in this place again. If you keep trashy staff who knows what else they have in there?!
Terrible place! My husband had open heart surgery and they had him on so much medication that he was incoherent for three days! After numerous complaining, they finally changed and on the 4th day he almost seemed back to normal. Was told he will be discharged the next day and when I came to the hospital in the morning - he was so drugged he could barely hold his head up. I'm SO pissed. Can't get an answer from ANYONE! Have waited over an hour for the nurse to make his way to our room. I will NEVER return to this hospital and would suggest NO ONE come here if there is another option!!!
I was treated in the ER for a broken, infected tooth. The DR in the ER was great. HOWEVER, I have spent the past 2 months trying to get a universal billing form for my insurance. I have got the worst run around ever. I first filled out their form online. That went nowhere. I called only to be told I need to speak to someone else. I have called that number 14 times and No one answers. I will go in person. THIS WILL BE MY LAST TRIP THERE. I WILL DIE BEFORE I GO THROUGH ALL THIS AGAIN
HORRIABLE PATIENT SERVICE.
I had a great experience in the ER. Short wait time, friendly and efficient nursing staff, and a doctor with a good bedside manner. Everything was clean and orderly, and the warm blankets were perfect.
I was very well cared for in the ER. The entire staff was friendly and kind. I was in excruciating pain, and they did everything they could to make things better. I'm glad they were close and jumped into action quickly.
The nurses (and staff) for my Dad were the best and treated with with respect and care for him after his 4th stroke. He was in room 458 for 2 weeks before being moved to KC Hospice. Thank you all for treating Jennifer so well.
This is/was by far the worst hospital I've ever experience! The "Staff" is very rude! No communication among staff (nurses or physicians)! Dr. K. Jackson who provides care at St. Joseph possess the "WORST" people skills. Professionalism and just the average run of the mill acts of courtesy is not common among the staff at St. Joseph (my opinion). My advice stay far away from this hospital!
First I want to thank the teams at St. Joseph's Medical center. My medical issue put me in their care for three days. They were supportive, professional, and made sure i got the care I needed. There is nothing better than realizing you are not near home and being treated as if your the most important person in the building. That is how I felt! I was not catered to and I know the nurses are not there to serve me as staff on a luxury cruse. I needed help and my journey took me through the doors of St. Joseph's. Thank you, for the professional care, support, and caring, I will truly never forget the great staff of Nurses, Nurses Assistants, and professionals who helped me on my way.
KC Pediatrics....Very Rude office staff! My oldest is 22 and my youngest is 9. I have 3 kids and a grandchild that have used Dr. Dattel since birth and have never had any issues until my grandson started going here about 2 years ago when I noticed the office has severely declined! . Needless to say, we are ALL changing Doctors. Michelle is the scheduler with a VERY snippy, sassy, nasty attitude. Her office supervisor Shawna has the EXACT same nasty attitude as her staff! They do not deserve 1 star. I have also had to have separate diagnosis on 2 of my children for separate issues that Dr. Dattels office overlooked. My grandson had to wait 3 weeks for his 2 year checkup, and due to construction, they arrived to the office 2 minutes passed the 15 minute late window and was turned away in the most rudest experience my daughter has probably ever encountered. Do all you can to AVOID this office!!!!
I gave to my daughter there & they were amazing to me & my daughter. Her doctors office is there to just nice & very friendly also very helpful.
