Place has changed very little since I was a kid. Not too crowded today in the cold weather, which was nice, but many of the stands were closed as well (the day after Christmas). Definitely worth a visit.

Roots is always a great place to spend the day. Outside you'll find lots of vendors selling everything from clothing to produce and everything in between.
Inside the market is tons of awesome food vendors. You MUST visit Mary Janes for the most incredible sticky buns you will ever have. Baked fresh all day. It's a must.
Across the street is lots of vendors in a Flea Market type atmosphere. Lots of treasures to find. The only bad thing is that their only opened on Tuesdays.

But Im there at least twice a month. Love it!

Roots is great. I go there almost every Tuesday. I met Katie Perry there. I got pics too. I promised her I wouldn't call the newspapers etc. Roots has the best fresh homegown, homemade foods you can buy. Can not get this food nowhere else, veggies, fruits etc. Anything you're looking for you probably can get at roots. I grew up down the street from there watched it go from this small farmers market into the big great farmers market. Try it out especially in the summer.

For me, Roots Country Market and Auction is the best of the whole bunch. I live approximately 40 miles away so I only make it to Roots once or twice a year. It’s a fun day visiting the market. Roots market has a great selection of foods and places to have breakfast and or lunch. Come when you have the whole day to make the most of your Roots experience. Bring water on hot days. Visit the flea market. I went to their arts & crafts fair one Labor Day weekend and I thought it was trashy so I never went back to it.

It's great in the warmer weather!! Very BIG. They have a Fleeeee Market side and a grocery side. Nice people with some great deals! The place is HUGE!!

Homemade Amish goods sold here. Auction on small farm animals.
Lots of indoor and outdoor fresh produce stands. There's plenty if good food to eat. Plenty of parking space even for a camper or a bus. Clean bathrooms.

I spent a most wonderful and amazing autumn afternoon at Root's! If you are looking for Amish / farmer specialties and super-fresh organic produce, you'll know you have arrived as soon as you walk through the market place. Here I purchased 2 cases of tomatoes labeled "seconds" at $5 per case. (I promise you that the sauce and salsa will never know they were marked as seconds.) Here there is everything you could want as far as produce goes. Remember, you are surrounded by acres and acres of farm land and cornfields! From someone who is accustomed to the city farmers' Market prices, these prices are ridiculously cheap, and the quality is stellar.

There is so much more to Roots than just the Produce market. If you come here you MUST at least sit in on the live auction that occurs in one of the buildings behind the outdoor market. There is an auctioneer and two or three men showing the produce and various items up for bid. Also, there is a set schedule of what is slated for sale. I sat in on the auction for produce, which was quite entertaining and well attended. It helps to have an auctioneer with a sense of humor! I ended up with a case of heirloom tomatoes, a case of strawberries and a case of mangoes! If you wish to participate, you will need to register near the back where you will be assigned a number for bidding purposes. You may consider inviting a friend along and sharing the lot because, a "lot" is a lot for a single person or family. On the auction block that day were: strawberries, potatoes, sweet potatoes, mushrooms, mangoes, cases of cookies, organic carrots, lemons, papayas, celery, breakfast cereal, and much more! Later in the day pumpkins, gourds, and gigantic mums were on the schedule. If you do win here at the auction, you can drive up to the barn and load up after paying, of course.

An additional building on the property held live chickens and bunnies. They were caged, and I did not venture in, but I assume they are for sale as well. There is also Amish furniture for sale on site.

There is an indoor market which features many crafts and Amish specialties food items, cheeses and a deli. Here you can find whole raw milk and eggs, and most of the food counters inside are run by young Amish women. I bought some shepherd's pie and some broccoli salad; both delicious!

There are several outside food vendors, and across the street from the outdoor market is an indoor and outdoor flea market for those who wish to browse.

Please note: Roots is open TUESDAY only and the outdoor market is seasonal. While you can use a credit card at the auction, the outdoor market and the other stands are cash only. There is an ATM inside. I recommend that you bring a large bag or even a cart on wheels. There is a parking lot that is not far unless you are carrying cases of tomatoes!

From fresh fruits to collectors cards. Freshly picked & delivered veggies to hanging plants. Deli goodies to tools & knives. Hand crafted garments to "out to this world" (but baked locally) confections.
A Lancaster County experience you have to put on your list.

Always a fun place. Root's Country Market and Auction is open ONLY on Tuesday. It's been around since 1925. Many of the standholders have been there for generations. There are several farm stands that sell shipped-in foods, so be sure to look for the LOCALS. You'll get better food and will support the community. AWESOME baked good and lots of fun junk shops to pick through, too. I've never participated in the produce auctions, but my dad used to score great bargains for freezing and canning. Not a fan of the livestock auction. Makes me too sad.

Great place to get produce and baked goods, as well as lots of other random things (sleigh bells, bees wax, kitchen tools, American Girl doll clothes and accessories, to name a few). Don't miss the French fries and snow cones! Big flea market too, as well as a flower/plant sale/auction.

Tuesdays only! worth the trip everytime! Such a variety of people selling and buying. Go early for less of a crowd and best selection. Auction for flowers goes off later in the afternoon. Animals and other things going on also. check their website. Love this place!

Great local farmers market. Good cheap place for fresh meats and produce. Great prices large selection to choose from. Also has auction, areas to buy random goods, fresh baked items. A must visit on Tuesday's.

Great pick for fresh produce, homemade baked goods, and miscellaneous goods. They have an animal auction that is neat to walk through to see all of the animals when you have young children. Overall a great environment. I do however wish they would ban smoking in the outside portion of the market.
