Great hikes for all levels. No playground, but who needs that when the kids are so tired from the hiking. Great places to play in the creek, too!
Spectacular views within easy walking distance! Other trails offered solitude and a great fall hike! Highly recommend for anyone & everyone!!
No complaints. Hopefully one day ill be brave enough to make it to the fabled rock. (I almost stepped on a snake and aborted the mission entirely, and have never consciously been able to talk myself in to trying again 😂)
If you are in need of a great breath of fresh air, this is the place to go! Many families go here on weekends which is usually a popular time. I have also seen people go on runs for exercise, which is pretty neat. Unlike some Parks, this one offers a picnic table area. When traveling with children or even alone, it is advisable to stay on the marked paths. Overall, there is a wide range activities here which are flexible.
, great place to walk lots of woods Hills valleys and oh yeah almost didn't make it back LOL but I enjoy the people that walk friendly and pets were nice I give this place a star rating. Keep up the good work state Raven Rock State Park
The falls trail is nice, about 5 miles round trip, and many people cross the water to climb on the falls rocks, though it isn't advisable Picnic area was also good, with park grill and recyclable bins nearby. Very busy on a weekend sunny day, so we were in overflow parking areas, as were many other visitors. Visitor center was excellent, and the hummingbirds put on a great (natural) show for visitors!
Washington girl in NC - I LOVE Raven Rock! There are many different trails that are very shaded, which is awesome for sunny days. I personally love hiking near water, and alot of the trails take you near a creek or to the Cape Fear River. Such a gorgeous park!
One of the best places in central North Carolina for a quick "day hike." With several trails to pick from, including a 5-miler, Raven Rock has everything from overlooks, to fish traps, to an amazing experience on the Cape Fear River. There are even equestrian trails on the northwest side of the park.
Great place to go if you are looking to exercise. The trails are rugged and wined across the hillside up and down grades. Be sure to wear good trail walking shoes, bring a snack and water. This not really recommended for small children or strollers.
Very fun hike with kids! We took 4 kids (under the age of 7) with 2 adults and had a blast! The trails were very well-maintained and it was a beautiful area.
Beautiful place. Park Rangers are helpful and nice. The exhibit in the office building is small but very informative. Raven Rock is huge and it's amazing to stand underneath it. Everyone we met on the trails were very friendly.
My friend and I tried this place for the first time and enjoyed it. She'd never been hiking before and I figured a shorter "easy" trail would be a good start for us both. The trails themselves were well maintained, but we weren't expecting all the stairs to Raven Rock (she had hurt her knee previously in the week). We just took them slowly. Maybe be more clear about that on the website? The trail preview only mentioned a few steps.
The one thing we had trouble with were the markers. We did get a little turned around and ended up not knowing how far we actually walked after visiting Raven Rock. It'd be nice if there were mile markers included to help with distance tracking and for the directionally challenged like us.
Really cool place to visit with the family! The overlook is nice, but my only nitpick is that the overlook could use a small drain. The overlook is sloped, and when it rains it all pools up right where you want to stand. A small pipe going out the side or some drainage channels would do the trick.
The leed building is really neat. Nice cozy design. Cool little amphitheater.
I drove up to Raven Rock for the day with two friends.
It was a great hike, plenty of parking, and a beautiful trail. Be prepared to go down quite a few steps to go down to the river, and be just as equally prepared to go back up. I wouldn't suggest anyone who has asthma or an elderly person go down the steps unless you know you can make it back up or have your inhaler on you. One of the friends I went with has breathing problems on occasion and about 2/3 of the way up, she had to pull her inhaler out.
We went off path a little, climbed a few rocks, and found a nice little alcove to stop and eat our packed lunch. It was extremely peaceful to sit there and listen to the river as you sit and munch and a quick lunch.
They have benches along the track to allow people to rest as needed, which is always appreciated.
There are multiples trails to walk as well. Plenty of options, from easy to moderate, no real difficult trails to walk. Most of the trails are pretty easy.
This is a great place to take your kids, you pets, or just yourself and spend the day outdoors on a nice hike. You can either challenge yourself a little or take a leisurely walk through the woods.
