Reading through these reviews you would think the staff were a bunch of monsters. I have had nothing but good experiences during our many visits. Extremely helpful staff and a great location make this library one of my favorites. (The Rush Branch will always be my favorite but this one is growing on me.)
I've gone to this library a few times, only for items that I can't find at any other library due to them being checked out already, or just not being at another branch. Every time I go, I feel like I'm inconveniencing the staff by asking them questions. I had one of them ask if I was blind (and I partially am) after she found the item I had been searching high and low for in every section I could think to look in. Nice looking place, with a great view, and wide selection of stuff to choose from, it's just too bad that the staff couldn't be any better if they tried.
I just want to make a quick comment on my experiences at the library. The staff are the nicest and friendliest library staff I've ever encountered, and I worked in libraries for years! The only reason I didn't give the library five stars was, lately the temperature was uncomfortably hot, but other than that, a lovely place.
A very nice facility. The upstairs fireside reading area is an excellent touch. The space is not as well utilized as it could be, and their digital media collection pales in comparison to the DVD, CD, audio books on disc collections of Penfield and Fairport, as two examples. Both of those branches have outstanding DVD collections, and Fairport's CDs (especially jazz) are well chosen and impressively large in number. Have not had an issues with staff rudeness, but my interactions with the employees and volunteers have been limited. Lots of table/chair space if you wish to do work in relative quiet. Good location and outside courtyard which is also nice. Bruegger's no longer on first floor of building, but new coffee shop supposedly in the works as of May '17. downstairs. Decent book sales a couple times a year, but they charge a bit more than other sales because they are in Pittsford, no doubt.
Great spot to snag some WiFi. Many evenings have been spent in the street outside this place.
Nice place to visit on a hot summer day. My wife and I visited this library on a trip along the Erie Canal in a rented canal boat. It's a beautiful library, comfortably air conditioned, with plenty of chairs and nooks to relax in and read or browse. We stayed for hours to escape the heat. They have a large magazine collection, and an interesting set of prepared bags of books for book clubs to use, with terrific book summaries to help you choose. The few staff we interacted with were friendly. The rest rooms were clean. Lots of other people were using the library to study or relax, but it was still quiet. We enjoyed our visits.
Great place to go, chill, read a good book!
It's a nice place, pretty quiet. But the people who work there are usually rude and unwilling to help you. I cannot believe the atmosphere and felling of the town in general, does not reflect on the staff of one of it's most important public buildings.
I have 3 children with whom I frequent the library OFTEN. and the staff is on average NOT nice. They are knowledgeable and helpful in resolving your questions, but always with attitude and impatience. A previous review commenting on the front desk/checkout personnel was accurate. Often my during checkout I am met with unenthusiastic greetings/mumblings and my efforts at engaging the clerk are met with the same.
The facility itself is beautiful and is a tremendous resource for all ages. It is architecturally beautiful and offers many spots for quiet escape for reading and studying.
