Real good food at real good prices, thanks to their "members supply labor" business model. A decades-long neighborhood institution.
One needs to be a member at the co-op to shop and is obligated to do one shift of about 3 hours give or take depending on the job once every 4 weeks with some exceptions. The prices are usually better than Whole Foods (except specials). The best part other then pricing is the freshness of the produce! No you won't have wide isles to stand and ponder what to buy but it's the place to shop!
Amazing grocery venue to be a member at. My wife and I have been members here for the past two years. Quality of produce, price of products and ability to find new and interesting vegan products. If you live within a two to three mile radius, this is a must visit.
As a member for nearly 30 years, the co-op is a World class operations recognize internationally . It has grown with a consistent high standards for superior products, commitment to larger issues such as clean organically grown and / or minimally treated produce, "health food store" quality selections and a diverse community in sync with "cooperative" philosophy.
A gem in Brooklyn! Member for almost 30 years and it's still a cornerstone in my life. It's nice to be able to ship somewhere that has a conscience and it's not profit driven. PSFC is not just in it for the money. They didn't just jump on the healthy bandwagon.
Join the Coop if you want to be a part of an active community that has a say in what your store carries, and even an influence in policy beyond Brooklyn. But only join if you have the discipline to remember to do your shift every four weeks!!
Best prices and quality. Very happy here.
An anomaly of quality, community, sustainability AND value in a world of blech. No one can touch the quality of Park Slope Food Co-op--not Whole Foods, not Fairway, not Trader Joe's. Yes, you work 2.5 hours a month but with fun people and the food and mission are totally worth it. I love the PSFC.
So worth joining. Great food access to local and organic foods. Love it.
5 years a member and I still love it! You gotta get comfortable with the lay of the land. Yes the rules. Yes the great prices. And yes that it's our cooperative. I rave about this place to everyone I know. Still a member and won't ever leave!
Paid STAFF are the down fall of this place. Extremely RUDE when training new members, selective in fairness for all members in other words they have preferred members and will use their admin abilities to accommodate "preferred" members. just a nasty office admin environment which is not a big deal when you're shopping but, MEMBERS DO WORK abut 3 hours per MONTH to maintain membership this is where if at any point you need your hours changed you'll have to deal with them just because mistakes are so frequent when members do the change of shifts for you.
If you're patient and have a lots of free this is your jump off! if you have to be in and out than on to the next one avoid the slow down and staff attitude!
Great community. Great food. (also weird community, and weird food, but that's the charm)
I have been a member for over 25 years and never fail to get energized when I work my monthly shift. Great food at the best prices.
As long as you don't mind shopping in tight quarters, the Park Slope Food Coop is wonderful. My husband and I became members shortly after moving to NYC and have shopped here ever since. The prices can't be beat and we love buying local produce and having access to very well-priced organic groceries and products.
Being a member of the coop and working a shift every four weeks, keeps me connected to the community and meeting new people! Getting a spot at a new member orientation can sometimes be tricky, but it's worth the effort.
I'm a member! I love this place! It's a cooperative, so everyone here is just really good at cooperating. Better food, better prices than a typical grocery store, and you get to be part of an incredible community too!
