  I had my Birmingham Hip Resurfacing (BHR) surgery performed by Dr. Lammens in October 2016, and after one year I have to say that it is a complete success. Prior to surgery I experienced arthritic hip pain for six years and now I have no pain and participate in many different athletic activities, including hiking, volleyball, and weight lifting. Dr. Lammens is an expert in this procedure and in the event I have to do this procedure for my other hip I will not hesitate to have Dr. Lammens perform the surgery. I followed all of the recommended recovery procedures, physical therapy, avoiding hard impacts for one-year, etc., and would recommend the same for anyone else post-BHR surgery. I walked with a cane the day after surgery, used a cane for two weeks, then walked on my own after that. The recovery was an up-and-down experience for two and a half months, with pain getting better, worse, better, etc. At that point my hip felt better than it did before surgery and kept improving to the point where I could have done a lot of activity at the four-month mark. Being conservative, I stuck with walking and light weight-lifting until 8 months, then participated in anything I wanted to. At the one-year mark I began playing volleyball, which includes jumping and landing, and my hip is doing great. Ortho Colorado (at the St. Anthony medical campus) is a modern hospital and the staff of Dr. Lammens is fantastic.
